Travelling to a foreign country can be an exciting adventure, but language barriers often make simple conversations intimidating. However, knowing the local language can completely transform the experience, opening doors to unexpected and meaningful connections. A heartwarming viral video is proving just that.
The clip features Klara, a German teacher who appears to be living in India, surprising a cab driver by speaking fluent Malayalam. His reaction? Pure shock.
“You never have seen anyone speaking in Malayalam?” Klara asks. The driver, caught off guard, admits he hasn’t. Without missing a beat, she starts conversing with him in perfect Malayalam, leading to a friendly, effortless exchange.
Klara, who mentions in her Instagram bio that she’s learning the language, shared the moment on social media. Explaining why she recorded it, she wrote, “Talking in Malayalam to Uber drivers always gets me a curious reaction, so I thought I’d film the interaction once.”
The video quickly went viral, with people flooding the comments to praise her skills. One person wrote, “Oh wow, you picked up the language and you speak it so smoothly.” Another commented, “I need to jump in front of a cycle and die! You speak more fluently than me.”
A third person wrote, “Mastering one of the toughest languages.” A fourth individual commented, “She speaks better malayalam than the so called posh mallu kids.”
Klara regularly shares Instagram videos showcasing her Malayalam skills, often translating English sentences into the language. In a video from last year, she appears alongside Aparna Mulberry, another German teacher, engaging in a conversation in Malayalam. Praising Klara’s dedication, Mulberry wrote in the caption, “KLARA IN THE HOUSE!!! She learnt Malayalam during the pandemic for the love of it! I’m in AWE of her pronunciation and ‘Mallu vibes.’”
