A German tourist in Mexico was arrested and subsequently attacked after climbing a historic Mayan temple called the Temple of Kukulcan. Entering and climbing this temple is forbidden. In the viral video shared by Daily Mail, the man can be seen climbing the temple in Chichen Itza, Yucatan while locals shouted at him for trespassing.
As the video progresses, a security guard is seen following the man up the temple, and once they both reach the top, the crowd below begins to yell. Shortly after, members of the Mexican National Guard rush to the scene, nabbing the tourist and arresting him with his hands behind his back. The video also captures bystanders running towards the man as he is escorted by National Guard officers, hitting and shouting at him along the way.
According to the report, the incident occurred on Thursday, March 20. “You are not allowed to go up the temple!” a man was heard yelling in Spanish, PEOPLE Magazine reported. “Idiot” and “stupid,” another man shouted during the incident.
Sharing the video, Daily Mail wrote, “This is the shocking moment a German tourist was filmed scaling a sacred Mayan temple in Mexico as onlookers jeered at him.”

Several social media users reacted to the video, with one claiming, “Many years ago I and others climbed this temple. It is not permitted now?” Another user commented, “Since the Egyptian pyramids have been exposed, people are trying to figure out the other pyramids.”
“I remember when i was a kid you could actually climb to the top!” a third user said.
The Chichen Itza complex, home to the historical site, attracts large crowds of both locals and tourists during the equinox, as the ancient Mayan temple, built over 1,000 years ago, is designed to create a light and shadow phenomenon during the seasonal shift, Mexico Daily reported.
