The 76th Emmy Awards took place in Los Angeles on Sunday. The biggest stars from Hollywood walked the red carpet serving some of the best fashion looks last night. Among several A-listers, a person dressed as a banana stole the spotlight, setting social media abuzz.
The person under the quirky costume was RuPaul’s Drag Race winner Nymphia Wind. The Taiwanese American is popular for his drag persona and won the reality show’s sixteenth season earlier this year.
The lime green bodysuit and pointed-toe heels mostly hid Wind’s body. The viral video showed the golden fabric made to look like a banana which is halfway peeled. The star pushed their arms out on both sides of the costume, pushing the giant peel down to make the face visible. Wind completed the look with a wirey black hairpiece attached to their head.

Several social media users guessed the person behind the banana costume. A user commented, “Idk but I know whoever it is is gonna be in my nightmares tonight.” Another user wrote, “That’s the #1 jane Goodall impersonator of the world.”
“They are normalizing how they scare the children underground,” a third user reacted.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Wind, after winning RuPaul’s Drag Race season 16, said, “We’re not taught to be vocal or voice ourselves. We’re taught to be subtle, quiet, and keep to ourselves. I’m not one to boast about being good at this or that. I’m a wallflower. Self-confidence has always been a thing throughout my life.”
“Even after winning, you wake up some days and you’re not feeling yourself, and other days you wake up super confident. You have to remember to acknowledge the good and the bad and see it as a whole,” Wind added.
