After Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s resignation on Monday, thousands of protesters stormed into her official residence. A sea of videos showing protesters looting and vandalising Hasina’s property flooded social media. Apart from her residence, many buildings associated with her party and family also faced the brunt of the protest.

In a video posted on X, a woman can be seen using Hasina’s elliptical machine, sparking reactions. The video shows the woman waving at the protestors who applaud her. Shared on August 5, the video amassed over a million views as many social media users slammed the woman. Reacting to it, a user commented, “At this point, it’s not stealing. It’s redistribution of wealth”. Another user wrote, “Cheering on a complete chaos in a country that will generate another tens of thousands of refugees. Genius. Sociopathic behavior at its best.”

A third user added, “The people’s elliptical”.

Apart from gym equipment, various viral photos show the protestors leaving the residence carrying furniture, electronics, clothing and even a Dior suitcase. Videos of the protestors setting fire to the premises, eating Hasina’s food and lying in her bed are currently doing rounds on the internet.

Many protestors were also seen parading on the street carrying Hasina’s personal belongings like innerwear, sari and blouse and were condemned by social media users.

Hasina resigned on Monday after hundreds were killed in a crackdown on agitations that first began with protests against job quotas. Upon resigning, she fled Bangladesh and landed in India at Hindon Airbase in Ghaziabad.
