Anand Mahindra, the chairman of the Mahindra Group, reacted to a video that showed a gigantic parking area in the Netherlands, designed for bicycles. Sharing the video posted on X by a user @FilmendeFietserwith, Mahindra said, “The Netherlands, Cycling into the future. Incredible how they are devoting space to, and designing spaces for, modest mobility.”

The video shows the massive parking lot with multiple levels and well-designed signage throughout. There are clear indicators at the entrances for which lane to take for each floor, as well as signs for merging traffic and exits.

Since the video was posted on X, it has captured the attention of many users. With 160,000 views already, many users are applauding what the Netherlands is doing for travellers who use bicycles for their commute. The CEO of Dazeinfo shared a chart in the comments section that ranks countries based on the number of respondents who use their own bike for transportation at least twice a week. Notably, India is ranked fourth on this list.

Many other users also praised this shift in commuting in the Netherlands. One user wrote, “That’s a really great design and incredible use of spaces.” Another user added, “While this is an amazing shift, I wonder how we could encourage more countries to adopt this without needing the flat geography of the Netherlands.”
