Two women who were seen in a video creating ruckus inside a police station using abusive language against police officers while registering an eve-teasing complaint, were booked by the D N Nagar police for their actions last week on May 22.
In the two minute 51 second video that went viral on social media platforms over the past couple of days, the police has identified the women as Pooja Mishra and Shruti Gupta, both models.
According to S R Dhanedhar, assistant commissioner of police (D N Nagar division), the alleged eve-teasing that women claim took place near ATM on the Juhu-Versova Link Road, where the women had stopped to withdraw cash at around 3 am on May 22.
Officers said that about the same moment, a white coloured sedan parked on the road with four persons inside, one of whom is believed to have entered the ATM, the women claimed.
According to the allegation made by the women, the men in the vehicle passed lewd remarks that made the women immediately raise an alarm and catch the attention of a patrolling vehicle of the police. The vehicle brought the models to the police station to register their complaint and with the suspects from the sedan.
Dhanedhar said that the video shows the models accusing the officers of letting go of the real culprit. The two women claimed the cops had brought the wrong eve-teasers and claimed they were shielding the real accused before they became volatile.
“We have primarily charged them for assaulting a lady officer, but fortunately the lady officer was not seriously injured. We have not made any arrests in the matter in either of the cases and are still investigating,” said Dhanedhar.
D N Nagar police on May 22 registered a case under section 509 (word, act or gesture outraging the modesty of a woman) under the Indian Penal Code against three persons.
Dhanedar added while Mishra and Gupta were charged under section 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant) and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the Indian Penal Code.
