After days of speculation around the launch of the new generation iPhone SE, there seems to be an official date. Apple CEO Tim Cook, on Thursday, in an X post, announced a product launch on February 19. Cook, in his tweet, said that a new addition to the Apple family would arrive next week. “Get ready to meet the newest member of the family,” he said.
The seven-second promotional clip teased the launch slated for next Wednesday. However, the CEO did not offer any details beyond a metallic Apple logo flanked by a glowing ring. It is still under wraps about which part of the Apple family this new device would belong to. Apple offers an array of devices in its ecosystem, ranging from MacBooks, iPads, iPhones, and more. Following the teaser, reportedly Apple’s shares shot up by two percent.
The latest model of the iPhone SE series was slated for launch this week; however, reports suggested that the device may only arrive next week. The iPhone SE debuted in March 2016 and has been an affordable smartphone that has similar dimensions as the older iPhone 5s. While the second generation was launched in 2020, the third generation made its way to consumers in 2022.
The rumoured iPhone SE 4 will hit the markets nearly three years later. Based on reports, the new smartphone will feature some noteworthy upgrades to its processor and design. So far, numerous reports have suggested that the iPhone SE 4 may sport a design on the lines of the iPhone 14 with flat rails around the edge and a bigger 6.1-inch display with a notch. The 3rd Gen iPhone SE has a smaller display at 4.7 inches, and a bigger display would be a major leap.
Also, the notch at the top is likely to house the FaceTime HD camera and biometric sensors, eliminating the need for the Touch ID fingerprint sensor. When it comes to cameras, the phone may feature a single 48 MP lens with an LED flash. Moreover, the phone may feature some Apple Intelligence features and also could be Apple’s first device to have a proprietary 5G cellular modem.
It is still unknown whether the new iPhone will be called iPhone SE 4 or simply iPhone 16E.
