Smartphone manufacturers often pack new Android phones with several apps that you might never use. Often referred to as 'bloatware', these apps can be anything from Netflix to Candy Crush Saga, depending on what the user seems useless. While many can be quickly uninstalled, some bloatware are a part of the system apps and therefore, cannot be removed from the device. However, these apps can be disabled so they don't actively run in the background and take up resources. If you are looking for a quick way to eliminate all the bloatware, here's a quick guide to help you do so. How to get rid of unwanted apps on your phone To uninstall or disable bloatware, you will need to head over to the device settings. Android users can either open the Settings app from the app drawer or tap the gear icon that appears when swiping down the notification once or twice (this depends on the phone). 1. From your device's 'Settings' menu, find and click on 'Apps'. 2. On newer Android phones, you will see a 'See all apps' option, tapping on which will open the list of all apps that are installed on the phone. 3. When your phone is done listing all installed apps, find the one you want to either by scrolling or using the search button on the top right. 4. In case you are unable to see system apps, tap the three-dot menu button from the top right of the screen and click on the 'Show system apps' option. 5. Once done, Tap on the one you want to get rid of and a new screen will appear where you will be able to uninstall or disable the app. 6. If an app cannot be uninstalled, try pressing the 'disable' button. Doing so will freeze the app and stop it from running in the background. In case you are unable to disable or remove the app from your device, the manufacturer has likely installed it as a system app, which makes it hard to get rid of. If this is the case, you might have to uninstall it using third-party tools. However, removing system apps using third-party apps might render your device unusable since you might unintentionally disable or uninstall a system app that is essential to the working of your phone.
