Former Union Minister and MP Vilas Muttemwar has urged Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithiviraj Chavan to make efforts to bring I-T giant Infosys, which is planning to shift its base from Bangalore to Pune,to the city.

“As you are aware,Pune is already an industrial hub of automobiles and has many heavy and large scale industries. Therefore it may not be able to cope up with the required infrastructure there,” Muttemwar said in a letter to Chavan.

In Pune, there is already a great stress on elementary infrastructure like water, electricity, drainage and local transport system. Shifting of Infosys to Pune will add to the city’s problems,he said.

As a matter of principles, there needs a balanced growth of all regions in Maharashtra,he added.

Muttemwar said Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar has expressed his reservations about Pune.

Nagpur is centrally located and has reasonably good urban infrastructure like housing, medical and education facilities and the multi-modal international passenger and cargo hub is coming to city with a Special Economic Zone (SEZ),he said.

Hence,Chavan should convince Infosys to shift to Nagpur instead of Pune, the letter added.
