Acer launches world’s first 8-inch Windows 8 tablet at Rs 27,999

Acer has unveiled three Windows 8 touchscreen devices.

Aiming to move its entire computing ecosystem to touch platform,Taiwanese company Acer unveiled three Windows 8 touchscreen devices – Iconia W3 tablet,Aspire P3 convertible Ultrabook and Aspire R7 Notebook with Ezel hinge.

Acer Iconia W3

The Iconia W3 is world’s first 8.1-inch Windows 8 tablet, perhaps the smallest tablet running Microsoft’s latest OS. In terms of design and looks,Iconia W3 isn’t a head-turner but it can’t be passed off as a cheap tablet either. Its 8.1-inch display at 1280×800 pixels resolution is sharp and bright and offers good viewing angles.

The tablet is powered by Intel Atom chipset backed by 2GB RAM and 32GB memory. Iconia W3’s 2-megapixel front and rear cameras clicked decent pictures. Acer may lose brownie points due to these cameras as its counterparts provide better cameras with higher megapixel count.

Iconia W3 is equipped with micro-HDMI and micro-USB ports and Acer says its 6800mAH battery provides up to 8 hours usage. Acer is offering an optional full-size Bluetooth keyboard holds the tablet upright for typing. The tablet docks to the keyboard’s rear for mobility. The keyboard, similar to those on 13.3-inch notebooks,is comfortable to use. Acer is offering the W3 tablet for Rs 27,999 till end of July, thereafter it will cost Rs 30,499.

Acer Aspire R7

The most interesting product in Acer’s new line up is Aspire R7 notebook. It can serve as a desktop replacement with features like 15.6″ Full HD 1920×1080 pixels touchscreen and a repositioned keyboard. Aspire R7’s keyboard, unlike others, has trackpad on the top and keypad below. It has Acer’s Ezel hinge technology that helps users adjust display in different positions.

With four modes of operation, the R7 can easily be used as a conventional notebook,a pad,a display,or switched to “Ezel™” allowing the screen to float over the keyboard at various angles. This enables users to work where they want and how they want: seated or standing,at a desk or on their lap. The Ezel™ hinge makes it easy to flip the display over, and to touch or type while creating or browsing content. Aspire R7 has four speakers that sync with the display’s position. Other specifications include 6GB RAM and 500GB storage. As introductory offer Aspire R7 will be priced at Rs 69,999 till July and beginning August at Rs 74,999.

Acer Aspire P3

Acer Aspire P3 is an 11.6-inch convertible Ultrabook that supports up to Intel i5 processor and has two cameras,5-megapixel on the rear and 1.3-megapixel on the front. It runs Window 8 OS. It has 4GB RAM,Intel HD graphics,a 120GB hard drive and Dolby Audio.

As a tablet Acer Aspire P3 functions well owing to its weight and portability factor but the leather keyboard case limits the ease of dragging the laptop. When placed on flat surface, moving the case to and fro was inconvenient. Also the angle at which that display rests on the keyboard is too vertical. When docked with the keyboard case,Aspire P3 retains touch functionality. Acer Aspire P3 will cost Rs 49,999 till July-end. Beginning August it will be priced the ultrabook will cost Rs 54,999.
