Delhi Confidential: Power Play

The tug of war over the Karnataka Chief Minister post has once again reached the doorsteps of the Congress high command in Delhi. A group of Karnataka MLAs close to Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar arrived in the Capital Thursday, while some others are expected to arrive in the coming days, said sources. The MLAs flew to Delhi with a request for the party’s central leadership: to promote Shivakumar to the top post in the state going by the “power-sharing arrange­ment between Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and his deputy”. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, who was returning from a dinner hosted in the honour of former Chile president Michelle Bachelet, awarded the Indira Gandhi Peace Prize-2024, was taken by surprise when he saw the MLAs at his residence late in the evening and barely 48 hours after meeting Siddaramaiah in the Capital. Kharge, however, didn’t disappoint the MLAs and was happy to meet them as they had come from his home state.

AI by the book

Gearing up for the CBSE’s new AI curriculum, the NCERT has formed a text­book development team this week to come up with a separate textbook on foundations and methods of artificial intelligence for classes 11 and 12. The team includes faculty members from three IITs and the IISc, Bengaluru. According to officials, this is the first time the NCERT will develop a full-fledged textbook—expected to be out next year—for AI.

At the annual climate change meet COP30 underway at Belem, Brazil, the Indian judiciary was represe­nted by Supreme Court’s Justice N Kotiswar Singh, who spoke at an event on climate, justice and human rights. Last year, NGT chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava had participated at the conference in Baku, Azerbaijan.
