LG has introduced two new mid-budget smartphones in India as part of its K series: the K7 and K 10 LTE. The K7 LTE is the cheaper of the two smartphones, priced at Rs 9,500 and LG says both these devices support VoLTE or Voice-over LTE.

In terms of design, the LG K7 LTE looks pretty good for its price tag. It follows the same LG design where the volume buttons and the power button are all on the back, below the rear camera. One can use the lower volume button to take pictures when the camera app is on.

The metal frame on the side and the 2.5D curved arc design make this budget phone look really elegant. If the 5-inch display didn’t come with a full wide VGA resolution (480×854 pixels), I’d have actually thought this was a more expensive device. The back cover of the LG K7 is removable, as is the battery. Both SIM slots are in the back along with the micro-SD slot. The LG K7 LTE supports only nano-SIMs so users will need to keep that in mind while buying this device.

The microSD slot can be used along with the second SIM. This is especially useful considering that this smartphone comes with 8 GB storage space of which around 4 GB is available for users when they start the smartphone. The space is likely to run out soon even with 10-15 apps, which is a given for most smartphone users these days.

The 5MP camera is not much to talk about and we’ll discuss it along with the battery life in our full review. The K7 comes with a 2125 mAh battery.

LG K7 LTE has a Qualcomm Snapdragon quad-core processor, 1.5 GB, 8GB storage space. In terms of performance, the smartphone is not meant for high-end HD gaming, although it can handle games like Lara Croft Run pretty decently, which is well more than you can expect given the specs.

But the device does lag at times, and it is definitely not the fastest one in its price range. We know that the Redmi Note 3, Le 1s, etc offer much better performance and cost around Rs 9,999 (2GB+16GB version) and Rs 10,999 (3GB RAM+ 32GB storage). The LG K7 feels doubly expensive for the kind of specs that it offers to users, who have much better options in this price-range. And yes most new phones are also 4G ready in India, so the K7 can’t really claim that as its sole USP.

While LG had a made a pretty solid-looking budget device, the problem is what is inside. The specs are underwhelming, especially for the price. Wait for our full review next week.
