Brainwavz HM2 #ExpressReview: Music on a budget

The Brainwavz HM2 is a over the ear headphone that you can use on the move and also while enjoying music at home. The headphone can be folded comfortably into its hardcase and will easily slip into your office bag too. The body is made of plastic, but at this price you can’t really complain.

What is good?

The design is comfortable to you, and makes the headphone very mobile despite not being very small. It is lightweight and easy for you to forget that you are wearing it after a while.

The audio is good for regular users. But if you need heavy bass, then this might not be for you.

On the cable the volume is adjusted with a slider and not the usual + and – buttons. I found this more convenient, making it easier to achieve a very precise volume point.

The audio quality is good enough for you to enjoy all kinds of music. It is not that high on bass, and works really well for those who like to listen to more vocal based music. I tried it for listening some Coke Studio numbers and the experience was surprisingly good.

The 40mm drivers really come into play when you try and listed to an audio test that gives a full range of frequencies. So you will enjoy this for listening to movies on your laptop or smartphone.

The headphone comes with two detachable cables, which is very thoughtful.

What is not that good?

I didn’t really like the design and found it a bit too plasticky. Also, the ear cups started feeling strained after about 30 minutes or so.

The audio is good for regular users. But if you need heavy bass, then this might not be for you. I felt the music becoming flat while listening to heavy metal numbers at high volume.

The branding is a bit too loud, especially the BRAINWAVZ written on top of the headband. This serves no purpose and makes the headphones look a bit too tacky.

Should you buy

If you are looking for a full performance headphone at budget prices, then this is a good option. Yes, it is not for all kinds of music. But I don’t think someone who wants to listen to popular music will have an issue with the headphone.
