Google has increased the subscription prices for YouTube Premium in India with up to a 58 per cent price hike on certain plans. The prices of student, individual, and family plans have gone up, and the new prices are already in force. YouTube has started sending out emails to existing users regarding the price hike, where a user needs to agree to the new prices to continue the subscription, stating “We don’t make these decisions lightly, and this update will allow us to continue to improve Premium and support the creators and artists you watch on YouTube.” YouTube Premium's monthly student plan has gone up from Rs 79 to Rs 89 with a 12.6 per cent price hike, while the individual monthly plan has gone from Rs 129 to Rs 149 with a 15 per cent price hike. The monthly family plan has sharply gone up from Rs 189 to Rs 299, which is now 58 per cent more expensive, and this plan allows up to five members to use YouTube Premium on a single subscription. The individual month, quarterly, and annual prepaid plans have also seen a price hike, which now cost Rs 159, Rs 459, and Rs 1,490, respectively. These new prices are applicable for both new subscribers and existing Premium users. YouTube Premium subscription offers benefits like ad-free streaming, high-bitrate streaming at 1080p, offline download, background playback, and ad-free streaming on YouTube Music.
