Tim Cook happy to ramp up manufacturing quickly in India: Rajeev Chandrasekhar at FE Conclave

The Union Minister shared that Tim Cook was happy to ramp up manufacturing in India.

Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Minister of State for Entrepreneurship, Skill Development, Electronics & Technology, said Wednesday that that Apple CEO Tim Cook was “so happy they could ramp up so quickly in India”.

Speaking at the FE Digital Bharat Economy Conclave 2023 in New Delhi, the Minister said, “Everybody in India should be excited about the huge factories that have come into India.”

The Union Minister also said that Cook was happy to ramp up manufacturing in India, and ‘this was made possible due to effective policy-making’. He also mentioned that 70 per cent of employees in these factories are women.

He also stated that in 2014, 82 per cent of all the mobiles consumed in India were imported, and as of 2023, brands like Samsung and Apple have exported over one lakh crore smartphones from the country. Smartphones are currently the fifth-largest exported product category in India.

During the conclave, Chandrasekhar also provided insights on how technology can transform the lives of Indians and expressed that India is ready for AI, which offers tremendous possibilities in the digital economy and governance.
