Truecaller, the caller ID app used by around 291 million users in India recently released one of the biggest updates for iPhones, which brings the app on par with its Android counterpart.
While Truecaller for Android offers features like live Caller ID, spam protection and more, the app barely made any sense on iPhones since it could not display caller ID in real-time nor could it block spam calls.
However, with the newly released update, Truecaller says that the iPhone version of the app is now on par with the feature set available on Android phones. This means that you now see who is calling you in real-time and take advantage of the company’s AI-powered spam protection feature.
In a press release, the company said the real-time Caller ID feature was possible because of Apple’s Live Caller ID Lookup framework, which the tech giant developed for apps like Truecaller while preserving user privacy. Truecaller on iPhones is also getting the ability to block spam calls, the ability to search up to 2,000 previously identified calls in the recent list.
To enable Truecaller on iOS 18.2, open the Settings app on your iPhone, head over to Apps, tap on Phone and enable the switches under “Call Blocking and Identification”. Now, re-open Truecaller and you are good to go. One thing to note here is that the new features are currently limited to Truecaller Premium subscribers, while free users are limited to ad-supported number searches and can only see caller IDs of verified businesses.
If you are on Android, free Truecaller users can not only see caller ID of all available numbers in real-time but can also choose to enable the spam call blocking functionality.
Talking of AI, Google Gemini may take the center stage on the upcoming Galaxy S25 series devices.
Similar to Apple’s Siri, it looks like users will be able to trigger Gemini using the “Hey Gemini” command and even ask the AI powered digital assistant to control apps like the built-in Calendar, Notes and Reminders app.
