Microsoft is likely to announce a deeper integration of Copilot AI within various products at the event (Image credit: Microsoft)
Microsoft’s annual Build developers’ conference is scheduled to take place from May 21 through May 23. As usual, it will be held in Seattle, Washington, and will bring us the latest news about AI, Co-pilot, and Windows.
Although Microsoft has yet to post a detailed schedule for the conference, the page is currently inviting attendees to sign up to find out when registration opens. Not only does Build focus on tools for developers who contribute heavily to Microsoft’s core platforms, but it also lays the groundwork for the company’s broad priorities for the new year.
Last year, Microsoft used its Build conference to announce how it is integrating artificial intelligence into its core apps and services, including Windows 11, Microsoft 365, and more. We expect to hear more about Co-pilot, AI, and possibly new Surface hardware at this year’s Build conference.
Over the past few years, Microsoft has been betting on generative artificial intelligence, a technology startup OpenAI’s ChatGPT AI chatbot that can compose natural-sounding text with a person’s brief written command. The Redmond giant is also the biggest investor in OpenAI, led by Sam Altman.
Under the leadership of CEO Satya Nadella, Microsoft is emphasising to investors how important AI is to the company’s identity. In recent months, the company has been reaching out to both small businesses and large companies to encourage the adoption of AI. Microsoft has been offering Copilot for Microsoft 365, leveraging OpenAI’s large language models, to large companies since November last year and to faculty and staff at educational institutions since December.
For individuals, Copilot can be accessed for free through the Bing search engine and at copilot.microsoft.com. However, for those who pay for Microsoft 365 Personal and Family subscriptions, they can opt for a $20 subscription that unlocks Microsoft’s AI-powered Copilot inside Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Microsoft wants to lead the generative AI race, facing tough competition from Google, Nvidia, and Amazon. The company aims to integrate AI into everything from operating systems, cloud services, productivity tools, web search, and even personal computers. Microsoft recently reclaimed the title of the most valuable publicly traded company from Apple.

Build isn’t the only developer conference that will take place in the next few months. Apple and Google, too, will host significant developer conferences close to their campuses in California. Google I/O typically takes place in May each year, and Apple’s annual developer conference, WWDC, starts in the first week of June. However, both Google and Apple are yet to announce schedules for their upcoming developer conferences.
