Microsoft has been quick to integrate Copilot, its OpenAI-backed AI chatbot, into various products. Last year, the tech giant brought Copilot to the new Outlook app for Windows, but the older version of the app still lacked the functionality.
In a recent blog post, Microsoft announced it is gradually rolling out Copilot for classic Outlook for Windows and that it is already available for those in the Current or Monthly Enterprise Channel. The post also suggests that Copilot for the older Outlook app on Mac and mobile will be coming in three to 12 months after the first rollout.
The AI-powered chatbot can help with a wide range of tasks like summarising threads to help users catch up with all that is happening. Copilot can also present the information in bullet points and lets you get more information if needed. To use the feature, just press the “Summarize” button on the top right reading pane when a message is open.
Similar to Google’s Help Me Write, if you are stuck without knowing how to start or what to write, the “Draft with Copilot” feature can come handy. To start a draft from scratch, press on the ‘New Email’ button or reply to a message, press the Copilot button from the ribbon and choose the ‘Draft with Copilot’ option. You can also adjust the length and the tone of the message before sending.
Another feature dubbed “Coaching by Copilot” lets users check the tone, clarity and even see if the reader sentiment is as intended. Once you have drafted a message on Outlook, just press the Copilot button from the ribbon and click on “Coaching by Copilot”.
Microsoft also clarified that classic Outlook will get all AI features the new Outlook has, but all of them will be available “within a reasonable follow-up” timeline.
