The blue checkmark used to be a symbol of trust and credibility on X (formerly Twitter) until Elon Musk turned it into a virtual commodity that anyone with a Blue subscription could sport. Not only did the tick’s status nose-dived after that, but those with it also began to be ceaselessly ridiculed.

That’s a tragedy for X users who’ve subscribed simply to increase the reach of their posts, bump up the character limit, and have an option to edit their thoughts after they’ve been posted. Thankfully, these users will now be able to hide the blue checkmark of shame.

On Tuesday morning, X added a new note to its verification page, announcing a new feature that allows users to conceal their checkmarks. When activated, the blue checkmark will disappear from the profiles and posts of subscribed accounts. However, these accounts can still enjoy most of the benefits of Blue – it’s like an incognito mode for the subscription.

“As a subscriber, you can choose to hide your checkmark on your account. The checkmark will be hidden on your profile and posts. The checkmark may still appear in some places and some features could still reveal you have an active subscription. Some features may not be available while your checkmark is hidden. We will continue to evolve this feature to make it better for you,” reads the note.

To hide your X Blue badge, follow these simple steps:

– Click on the profile icon at the top left of the screen.
– Select Settings and privacy from the menu.
– Under the X Blue settings section, choose Profile Customization.
– Check the box next to the option Hide your blue checkmark.

That’s it, you can now avoid being cyberbullied for the tick.
