Despite facing competition in the last few years, the Google Play Store remains one of the most popular destinations for discovering apps on almost all Android devices. While users can install new apps at the click of a button, finding newly discovered apps can sometimes be hard.
To fix this issue, Google might be working on a new ‘Download Manager’ for the Play Store that lets you keep track of all your recently downloaded apps. According to a recent APK teardown by Android Authority, the publication found several strings in Play Store v42.9.16-31 that hint at the currently work-in-progress feature.
Upon activating the feature in a more recent version of Google Play Store, it was noted that the Download Manager not only shows the currently downloading apps but also tracks all recently installed apps which the user hasn’t launched since installation. When you launch any app in the list, it is then removed and won’t be visible the next time you open the ‘Recently Installed’ section.
However, unlike traditional download managers, which allow users to pause and resume downloads, the functionality seems to be missing from Google Play Store’s built-in download manager at the moment. While it may not be useful for everyone, the functionality is really useful for users who download and install multiple apps at once or forget to open an app once it is installed.
One thing to note here is that the feature is currently not available in the Google Play Store, and Google is yet to officially announce the functionality, so you might have to wait anywhere between a few weeks to months or Google might ditch it altogether. Recently, Google updated the Play Store with a new feature that allows users to download multiple apps at the same time.
