During Google I/O Connect 2023 Bengaluru, the search giant announced a new India-specific feature, which allows users to pay Google Play bills of their friends and family. Users can share the payment link with friends and family via a messaging app like WhatsApp and other parties can pay on their behalf to complete the purchase.
This is part of the Play billing library 6.0, and will only be available in India, this feature is coming to all Google Play users later this year. It can be used to purchase games, rent movies, and even to get in-game content.
Do note that these links will be valid for 24 hours, and one has to complete the payment within that period to complete the transactions. When you share a purchase link with a friend or a family member, they will get access to the e-mail address, and can also see what they are purchasing and ask for a refund of the same.
As of now, it is unclear if there is any limit on how much one can pay for a friend or a family.
Google Play currently supports multiple payment options in India, which include credit cards, debit cards, UPI, Google Play balance, and users can also make payments using Paytm wallet directly from the Google Pay payment gateway.
