The Google Pixel 8 series is expected to launch later this year and ahead of that the first video of the design. The video is accompanied by a reveal of one of its major new features.
Leaked by tipster Kuba Wojciechowski to 91mobiles, the video reveals the full design of the upcoming Google phones. While the design looks largely unchanged, the camera module on the Pixel 8 Pro has been tweaked to include a single camera island instead of the two on the Pixel 7 Pro.
But the biggest upgrade is the new built-in thermometer. The thermometer features a white sensor positioned on the rear of the phone in the camera bar right below the LED flash. This piece of hardware uses infrared technology to measure your body temperature. To use it, you’ll have to bring the thermometer close to your forehead (but not touch it), tap a button, and rotate it along your forehead.
In addition to humans, the thermometer will be able to measure the temperature of objects as well.
The source of the video is unclear but it appears to be from internal materials made for demonstrating how the feature works. The thermometer will be exclusive to the Pixel 8 Pro, according to the publication, which also says that the feature is currently being internally tested by Google.
The Google Pixel 8 Pro is also expected to feature a 6.52-inch display and be powered by an upgraded Tensor G3 chipset, which has been codenamed ‘Zuma.’ At the rear, the handset is expected to house the Samsung 50MP ISOCELL GN2 camera sensor.
