Google Circle to Search may remain exclusive to Pixel and Galaxy phones till October 2024

Introduced with the recently launched Samsung Galaxy S24 series, Circle to Search is a new functionality that lets users search for anything on the screen by drawing a circle around the object or text.

Samsung unveiled its Galaxy S24 series last month, bringing in many AI-powered features and Circle to Search, a new feature that lets users draw a circle around an object or text to get more information about it without having to leave the app they are using.

A week later, Google released the first Pixel Drop of the year, which enabled the new Circle to Search capability on the Pixel 8 and the Pixel 8 Pro. The new feature is currently exclusive to the Google Pixel 8 and Samsung Galaxy S24 series and might remain so, for most of the year.

According to a press release shared by Samsung Netherlands, the company said that the recently launched Galaxy S24 series has broken sales records in the country, with pre-orders seeing a 50 per cent increase.

The tech giant also revealed that Circle to Search is what makes the new flagship series unique and hinted that the functionality may come to other Android devices after October 5, 2024. However, Samsung stated that ‘there are no active developments underway’ to bring Google Circle to Search to other brands.

At first, this may seem like Circle to Search may remain exclusive to Google Pixel 8 and Samsung Galaxy S24 series phones, the phrase hints that the functionality might be available on older Galaxy and Pixel phones in the coming months.

While Circle to Search does not offer any additional functionality, it is the ease of access that makes it useful. In case your device does not get the feature, just remember that most of the functionality offered by Circle to Search also exists in the Google Lens app.
