
Long lines were seen outside Samsung’s flagship stores in South Korea, as the company launched the Galaxy Z TriFold smartphone in the East Asian country on Friday.
The device features a unique design allowing it to unfold twice, revealing a 10-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X screen, which users found conducive for productivity, akin to a compact tablet rather than a smartphone.
The Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold boasts a 10-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a resolution of 2160 × 1584 and an adaptive refresh rate from 120 Hz to 1 Hz. This display supports Samsung DeX, enabling it to function as a standalone workstation with the capability to run three apps concurrently, enhancing productivity. Externally, it includes a secondary 6.5-inch 1080p display that mirrors the aspect ratio of the Z Fold 7’s cover screen.
The construction consists of three panels with varying thicknesses: a 4.2 mm middle section with a USB-C port, a 4.0 mm panel, and a 3.9 mm panel containing a SIM tray. When folded, the device reaches a thickness of 12.9 mm, making it bulkier than the Galaxy S25 Ultra and the Z Fold 7 yet similar in size to Huawei’s Mate XT.
Durability is addressed with a titanium-reinforced Armour FlexHinge and a dual-rail mechanism that stabilises the folding process. The hinge features a metal reinforcer for durability, while the back panel is crafted from a ceramic-glass fibre-reinforced polymer. The device has an IP48 rating, providing some resistance to water exposure, although not entirely dustproof.
Camera capabilities are impressive, including a 200-megapixel primary lens, a 12-megapixel ultrawide, and a 10-megapixel telephoto camera, supplemented by two 10-megapixel selfie cameras located on both displays. Internally, it operates on the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy chipset, paired with 16 GB of RAM, and incorporates a balanced battery configuration totalling 5,600 mAh.
The Galaxy Z TriFold, with its advanced engineering and ambitious integration of Galaxy AI, positions itself as one of Samsung’s most notable devices in recent memory, embodying a sci-fi aesthetic with practical functionality.
