Apple recently released a new Rapid Security Response update for iPhones, iPads and Macs running the latest version of its operating system. To give you a quick recap, Rapid Security Response (RSR) is a new type of update that is automatically applied to patch newly discovered vulnerabilities and exploits.

The Cupertino-based tech giant recently confirmed that hackers might have actively used the exploit to target active users. Available for iPhones and iPads running iOS 16.5.1 (a) and iPadOS 16.5.1 (a), the vulnerabilities affected the Webkit browser engine developed by Apple and allowed hackers to execute arbitrary codes when processing web content.

It looks like the same security exploit is affecting Mac users running on macOS Ventura 13.4.1 (a) and those using Safari 16.5.2 on macOS Big Sur and macOS Monterey. Tipped by an anonymous researcher, Apple says it has addressed the issue with improved checks.

While Apple devices are generally secure, it is recommended that you immediately update iPhones, iPads and Macs affected by the problem to enhance your device security.

How to install the latest Rapid Security Response updates on iPhone, iPad and Mac

To update your device to the latest RSR on iPhone and iPad, navigate to Settings> General > Software Update > Automatic Updates and make sure the ‘Security Responses and System Files’ toggle is turned on.

On Mac, you can update by heading over to System Settings and clicking on ‘Software Update’ under ‘General.’ Here, click on the ‘Show Details’ button that can be found next to Automatic Updates and enable the ‘Install Security Responses and system files’ option. After the update is installed, you will see an alphabet after the software version.

If you see a message that says ‘Unable to Verify Security Response’, try restarting your device and redownload the update. Also, make sure you are connected to the internet when downloading the update.
