Unveiled earlier this year in June at the WWDC 2023, the Journal app uses information on the device to display topics you can write about which dubbed ‘Reflections’.

To enhance user privacy, the Journal app can automatically lock itself after it’s closed for a certain amount of time after which you will be required to authenticate it using a passcode or Face ID.

React to messages using Live Stickers

Apple introduced Live Stickers with iOS 17. The feature is really handy if you want to create your own stickers from images on your device. With the upcoming iOS 17.2 update, Apple will now allow users to react to texts in Messages with Live Stickers.

To use the feature, simply long-press on the text you want to react to, tap on the ‘Add Sticker’ on the menu that appears and choose the sticker of your choice. You can also react to messages using emojis.

New translate option for Action Button

Another useful feature Apple is bringing to iOS 17.2 is a new ‘Translate’ option for the Action Button. Pressing the action will then automatically initiate voice-to-text translation options. The tech giant had announced the functionality during the iPhone 15 launch event, but it was added to iOS 17.2.

Change default notification sound and haptic patterns

iOS 17.2 beta 4 introduces a new option that enables users to change the default notification sound. Apple seems to have added the option to change the notification sound after users complained that the default sound was too low. The tech giant also added a new option that lets you choose between different haptic patterns and even create a custom one.

To change the notification sound, head over to the ‘Settings’ app, tap on ‘Sound & Haptics’ and click on ‘Default Alerts’. Here, you will be able to choose the notification sound of your choice.

More widgets

Apple seems to have added 3 new widgets – ‘Details’, ‘Daily Forecast’ and Sunrise and Sunset’ for the pre-installed Weather app on iOS. The ‘Details’ widget shows the chance of precipitation, UV index, wind and other information, while the ‘Daily forecast’ and ‘Sunrise and Sunset’ widgets display the current weather conditions, daily forecast and upcoming sunrise and sunset information for your location.

The Clock app also seems to be getting a new widget called ‘Clock Digital’ which shows the time in digital format. This is the first time the iPhone is getting a digital clock widget.

Spatial video recording for iPhone 15 Pro series

With iOS 17.2 beta 2, the Cupertino-based tech giant added an option to record Spatial Video. The feature will enable users to record 3D videos which can be viewed on Apple’s first MR headset – the Vision Pro. Users can also normally watch Spatial Videos recorded from the phone in the Photos app.

Apart from the aforementioned features, Apple is also bringing several new functionalities like more sensitive content warning, an option to disable inline text predictions without turning off predictions and more to iOS 17.2.
