Bharti Airtel, one of the largest telecom operators in India, recently made some changes to its prepaid plans to comply with a recent directive from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) which requires network operators to offer Special Tariff Vouchers (STVs) with voice and SMS services.
The new Rs 509 plan has a validity of 84 days and is geared towards users who don’t use mobile data but only need unlimited voice calls and 900 free SMS. Some additional benefits include free access to the Airtel Xstream app, Apollo 24/7 Circle membership and free Hello Tunes. Previously, the Rs 509 also included 6GB of mobile data, which means that the revised plan offers fewer benefits.
If you are looking for a similar prepaid plan that comes with unlimited voice calls, limited free SMS and sometimes need mobile data, check out the Rs 569 plan that has the same validity and voice and SMS benefits but offers 6GB of mobile data.
Airtel also revised the Rs 1,999 annual prepaid plan. Previously, this plan included unlimited voice calls, 3000 free SMS and 24GB of mobile data, but Airtel has entirely removed the mobile data benefits. However, it does come with free access to the Airtel Xstream app, Apollo 24/7 Circle membership and free Hello Tunes.
Both aforementioned plans come with the Spam Fighting Network solution and post the free SMS limit, you will be charged Rs 1 and Rs 1.5 per SMS for local and STD SMS. In December last year, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) issued a directive that required network operators in the country to provide users with a Special Tariff Voucher, which allows them to pay for services that they need. However, Airtel’s new STV plans seem to be undercutting its previously available plans, which came with a limited amount of mobile data.
