Alliance for Open Universal Scene Description (AOUSD) is non-profit group. Adobe, Apple, Autodesk, Nvidia, and Pixar have joined forces to promote OpenUSD 3D format under the Joint Development Foundation (JDF), an affiliate of the Linux Foundation. Alliance for Open Universal Scene Description (AOUSD) will focus on standardising, developing, and promoting 3D content using Pixar’s universal scene description technology.
AOUSD will also emphasise making various 3D tools and data interoperable across the workflow. They will also develop specifications to enable wider adoption, integration, and implementation of the latest technologies for 3D content creation.

USD is an open-source software platform used for creating 3D scenes and is built to meet the needs of visual effect production of feature films by Pixar Animation Studios. The platform is optimised to handle large-scale 3D production pipelines.
3D technology is currently being used in big-budget cinemas. Besides, Apple also announced its first VR headset — Vision Pro with 3D capabilities, and, according to Mike Rockwell, Apple’s vice president of the Vision Products Group, “Apple has been an active contributor to the development of USD, and it is an essential technology for the groundbreaking visionOS platform, as well as the new Reality Composer Pro developer tool. We look forward to fostering its growth into a broadly adopted standard.”
