A new Windows bug is asking users to change their time zone

A bug affecting Windows 10 and Windows 11 is repeatedly bombarding users with a notification asking them to fix the time zone.

Microsoft consistently introduces new features to Windows, but these updates often come with bugs and issues, ranging from major system errors to minor glitches. Recently, some users have been inundated with a notification prompting them to fix their time zone.

According to a report by Windows Latest, this bug affects both Windows 10 and Windows 11. It repeatedly displays a notification stating that Windows has detected a change in the time zone and requests permission to adjust it, even though the user made no changes to the setting.

Microsoft’s Feedback Hub, a platform for discussing Windows-related bugs, features, and issues, is reportedly filled with posts about the time zone bug. As shown in the image below, users have two options: ‘Accept’ and ‘Ignore’. Clicking ‘Ignore’ makes the notification go away for some time while pressing ‘Accept’ launches the ‘Date and Time’ settings page, where everything appears normal.

While this may not seem like a major problem, the report suggests that regardless of whether users choose to ignore or fix the time zone, the notifications reappear after some time. It appears Microsoft is aware of the issue and is actively working on a fix, but there is currently no timeline for its resolution.
Last month, Microsoft confirmed that the April 2024 Windows security update was breaking VPN connections for some users. However, that issue could be quickly resolved by simply uninstalling the update.
