April Fools’ Day: Now ‘drop the mic’ on any Gmail conversation

Google will now let users have their last word in a thread mail without worrying about people responding to it. With the new Gmail Mic Drop feature, Google is making it easier for all its users to choose to opt out of thread mails, be it a heated office conversation or unnecessary family conversations.

“Today, Gmail is making it easier to have the last word on any email with Mic Drop. Simply reply to any email using the new ‘Send + Mic Drop’ button. Everyone will get your message, but that’s the last you’ll ever hear about it. Yes, even if folks try to respond, you won’t see it,” Google said in a blog post.

As soon as a user decides to drop the mic, Gmail will also include an explanatory image in the email to ‘help set expectations’, it said. Google added that the Gmail Mic Drop feature was being tested by friends and family for months and the response has been awesome. “Mic Drop is a huge improvement over Mute! I can finally let everyone know I’m just not interested,” one of the users wrote.

And if you’re thinking of dropping the mic on some email thread that’s been annoying you, hold your horses. It’ could be  just another April fool’s day prank from Google. True or not, we only know that the feature will be first rolled out for web for now.
