Tech News of the Week in India: Generative AI is taking over consumer technology, with brands like Intel and AMD announcing new chips with a dedicated neural processing unit (NPU) for laptops, Meta is adding AI capability to WhatsApp Business, and Apple is touted to unveil new AI features for iPhones, iPads, and Macs on June 10, at WWDC 2024.
This year's theme at Computex was "Connecting AI," where tech giants like Intel and AMD introduced new chips with generative AI capabilities for consumers and businesses. Qualcomm showcased its latest Snapdragon X series-powered laptops, while NVIDIA teased upcoming AI accelerators likely to power next-generation AI servers and large language models.
Recently, Meta introduced generative AI features across Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. Now, the company has launched a generative AI-backed tool within WhatsApp for Business to help small and medium businesses integrate AI into their chatbots. Additionally, Meta introduced Meta Verified in India, allowing businesses on WhatsApp to feature a green checkmark to distinguish them from counterfeit accounts.
At the upcoming WWDC (Worldwide Developer Conference) 2024, Apple is expected to unveil its first generative AI-backed features for iPhones, iPads, and Macs. However, some of these features might be exclusive to iPads and MacBooks equipped with an M1 or newer chip. For iPhones, only the flagship iPhone 15 Pro series, featuring the A17 Pro chip, is expected to receive headline features like an enhanced Siri, updated Notes app, and more.
Motorola, Nothing, Oppo, Realme, and Xiaomi have offered glimpses of their upcoming smartphones. Devices such as the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra, CMF Phone 1, Oppo F27 Pro+, Realme GT 6, and Xiaomi 14 Civi, boasting Leica-tuned cameras, are set to hit the Indian market soon. While some of these phones promise AI features and top-tier performance, others, like the CMF Phone 1, cater to the budget segment.
