The Yu Yuphoria sports a 5-inch HD IPS display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. It runs Cyanogen OS12 based on Android Lollipop. Yu Yuphoria has 8MP rear camera and a wide-angle 5MP front camera. Yu Yuhoria is powered by 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 CPU clocked at 1.2 GHz coupled with Adreno 306 GPU for graphics duty.

The USP of this Rs 6999 phone where design goes is that it has a metal frame, which is not available in any other phone in this budget range. The other big plus is CyanogenMod OS which offers a lot more customisation options and privacy features than standard Android Lollipop. Additionally Cyanogen gets updated regularly which is an important point from a security perspective.

Of course as we had noted in our review, that the biggest issue with the phone was that it would start heating up, no matter what the activity. Yu had then rolled out a new firmware update. We’ve had a chance to re-use the phone and the heating problem appears to have been resolved. While the phone still gets slightly warm especially around the camera ring, it’s no longer getting super-hot as it was with calls, etc.

The other big improvement with the update according to the company, is that the “camera has been greatly improved to provide sharper images and capture anything from those epic macro shots to detailed images even in low light conditions.” In our review, we had noted that the camera was definitely not the best, and for now we can’t say that the macro shots are anything to boast about. Colour reproduction still remains an issue.

Other improvements on the list are according to Yu Televentures:

“The proximity sensor’s performance has been optimised by including patches that will auto calibrate it every time the phone reboots. The touch panel has been made more responsive. A new firmware has been developed for faster typing and better gesture control, to give you a more fluid & seamless experience.” Additionally Yu has also made improvements to the audio chipset for clearer sound experience.

However as we had noted in our review, the budget pricing and given its otherwise smooth performance, the phone is very good deal indeed.
