Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 China launch highlights: Mi Mix 3 with 10GB RAM, 5G support launched, here’s the price

Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 will be available in four storage options: 6GB RAM/128GB memory, 8GB RAM/128GB memory, 8GB RAM/256GB memory and 10GB RAM/256GB memory. The 6GB/8GB RAM options will be available in Black, Blue and Green, though the 10Gb RAM option will be included as a special edition device, shown below. The 6GB RAM/128GB memory, 8GB RAM/128GB memory and 8GB RAM/256GB memory have been priced at 3299 yuan (Rs 34,800 approx.), 3599 yuan (Rs 37,980 approx.) and 3999 yuan (Rs 42,210 approx.) respectively.    

Xiaomi has also introduced the Mi Mix 3 Palace Edition, that will offer 10GB RAM and 256GB internal storage. The special edition comes with support for 5G connectivity. This variant will also support 10W wireless charging. Xiaomi has confirmed that the phone's price will be 4999 yuan. 

Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 will support wireless charging and the company also unveiled its new 10W wireless charging pad alongside the phone. In comparison, predecessor, Mi Mix 2 supports 7.5W wireless charger.    

Mi Mix 3 with 10GB RAM and 256GB storage has been announced as well. The 5G version of Mi Mix 3 will be available in the first quarter of 2019. Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 will be powered by Snapdragon 845 and not a new SoC from Qualcomm, as speculated previously. 

Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 sports a rear-mounted round fingerprint sensor. The phone will be available in three colour options - Blue, Green, and Black.   

Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 will also have dual front cameras, as confirmed by the company, where the 2MP secondary camera will help with depth sensing. Xiaomi has introduced six different artificial intelligence (AI) modes on Mi Mix 3's dual front camera setup, which includes AI Beauty, AI Face Unlock and more.  

With the dual rear cameras, Xiaomi claims that users will be able to enjoy shooting across various modes, including low light. Xiaomi also said at the Mi Mix 3 launch event that its AI improvements can achieve a more accurate analysis of background colours and multiple objects. The phone also features super slow motion at 960fps.    

Mi Mix 3 features four cameras - two on the front and two on the back. The dual front cameras are 24MP 2MP. The dual rear cameras come with a 12MP primary sensor with f/1.8 aperture, having a lens of 1.6 microns. The secondary 12MP sensor comes with a f/2.4 aperture and a lens of 1.0 micron. The phone's rear cameras come with AI-based features, as well as HDR support and slow-motion videos at 960 fps.      The dual rear cameras remain vertically stacked, while the dual front sensors are part of the retractable module.

Xiaomi has now unveiled the Mi Mix 3. The company is touting Mi Mix 3 as a device with the highest screen-to-body ratio among flagship phones, including iPhone XS Max, Huawei Mate 20 Pro, and Huawei P20 Pro, as well as Oppo Find X and Vivo Nex. The phone comes with thin bezels and features 6.39-inch AMOLED display. It has a screen to body ratio of 93.4 per cent. The screen aspect ratio is 19.5:9.  

Xiaomi has also confirmed that Mi Mix 3 will support 5G network connectivity. This has been confirmed via social media by the company's Director for Product Management, Donovan Sung. In addition, Sung's posts also mention the presence of 10GB RAM on this phone, which could also be an industry first. These features sound intimidating and are likely to be backed by a new Snapdragon processor. All in all, the information suggests that the phone could have robust capabilities. 

Xiaomi has been teasing the Mi Mix 3 for a while, and the company has actively promoted the retractable module that pops up over the display. As per the pictures leaked so far, we can confirm that the front camera lens is a part of it, though there seems to be more than one sensor in sight. If rumours are to be believed, those could hold support for 3D facial recognition. Xiaomi, meanwhile, has left fans guessing on how the added sensors would function.
