OnePlus embraced its foldable journey almost a year ago with the launch of the Open, the company's first folding smartphone. Unlike most brands that are into foldables, which took a few years to fine-tune their formulas, OnePlus was almost right on point from the get-go. This makes the OnePlus Open a solid foldable even in 2024, especially at its discounted price of Rs 99,999 on Amazon as part of the ongoing Great Indian Festival sale. The OnePlus Open (review) was introduced in October 2023 for Rs 1,39,999. If you are considering a flagship-grade foldable from a top-tier brand, priced within a lakh, the OnePlus Open is a great option. Here are a few reasons for us to recommend this over any other foldable right now. Solid design, premium build The OnePlus Open looks and feels premium. It has an excellent hinge system that completely shuts, leaving no gap for dust particles to seep in. Available in both glass and vegan leather back panels, there is something for everyone. Cover display that's a phone in itself The best part of any book-style foldable is its cover display, and the 6.31-inch screen on the Open feels like a regular smartphone that can do everything that you want to do on a smartphone. It has a massive 7.82-inch primary display on the inside, enabling tablet-like gaming, content consumption, and productivity on a smartphone. Excellent hardware It also has a great Hasselblad-tuned triple camera system, and is the first OnePlus smartphone to include a periscope zoom lens. The high-resolution wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle lenses also add to the camera experience. While Apple's flagship iPhone 16 Pro still starts with 128 GB of internal storage and costs a lot more than the Open, OnePlus's flagship foldable offers a whopping 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage, which should be good enough for most users. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is a pretty solid chip, even in 2024, which can handle gaming and multitasking without any issues. Excellent software experience Software is as important as hardware for a foldable, and the OnePlus Open is well-optimised to take advantage of both the primary foldable display and the cover display. OxygenOS 14-based on Android 14 is well-optimised for this platform, and the device should receive an Android 15-based OxygenOS 15 update in the next few weeks, and it should receive major software updates for at least three more years. Right now, there aren't many foldables available, especially under the Rs 1,00,000 price mark, making the OnePlus Open the go-to foldable for many.
