HTC U Ultra, U Play launched in India: Price, specifications, and features

HTC has announced its U series in India with U Ultra and U Play smartphones at Rs 59,990 and Rs 39,990 respectively.

HTC has announced its U series in India with U Ultra and U Play smartphones. The U Ultra and U Play will be available in 64GB storage variant at Rs 59,990 and Rs 39,990 respectively. Both the devices will come with a one-year insurance that covers liquid as well as physical damage to the smartphones. HTC U Ultra and U Play will be available starting March 6 and mid-March respectively. Standard Bank debit and credit card users can avail 7.5 per cent cashback on MOP (Minimum Operating Price) of phones.

HTC U Ultra

HTC U Ultra, will come with HTC Sense Companion. The voice-activated virtual assistant will be similar to Apple’s Siri, Google Assistant and Samsung’s S Voice. HTC is touting its virtual assistant a step further than just making suggestions based on user’s calendar or preferences.

The phone’s other distinguishing feature is its second screen, which sits above the main display and runs along the top of the device. The setup is very similar to LG V20, which also comes with a secondary display. The second screen (160 x 1040 pixels) offers a quick way to show information, including upcoming events, weather forecasts or customised notifications.

The U Ultra has a glass-metal design and includes a 5.7-inch with 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 coating on top. The smartphone is powered a Snapdragon 821 processor coupled with 4GB RAM. The internal memory is expandable by up to 2TB using a microSD card slot. The device has a 12-megapixel camera with laser autofocus and optical image stabilisation. The front camera has a 16MP capacity with UltraPixel mode and 1080p video.

The phone will come bundled with a pair of USonic earphones, which have the capability to detect sonic pulses and adjust the audio to match each user’s unique ear architecture. The smartphone also features HTC BoomSound Hi-Fi speakers. Like the iPhone 7, the device doesn’t feature a headphone jack.

HTC U Play

HTC U Play comes with 5.2-inch full HD display (1080p) with Gorilla Glass coating. It is powered by MediaTek Helio 64-bit octa-core processor with 4GB RAM. The memory is expandable up to 2TB via microSD card.

HTC U Play has a 16MP primary camera with BSI sensor, PDAF, OIS and f/2.0 aperture. It supports full HD (1080p) video recording at 30fps. There’s 16MP secondary camera as well with UltraPixel mode BSI sensor and f/2.0 aperture. The front camera supports full HD 1080p video recording as well. It uses company’s USonic technology for sound output. The 4G VoLTE enabled smartphone is backed by a 2,500 mAh battery.

With Samsung Galaxy S8 and LG G6 are set to be announced in the coming days, pricing of the U Ultra will be critical for its success in the Indian smartphone market.
