In an attempt to push the market for Chromebooks in India, Google on Friday, introduced new Chromebook models from OEMs like Xolo and Nexian, a brand by Spice. These will be available on Snapdeal and Amazon over the next few days. Also, the latest units from Asus including the Chromebook Flip and C201 and Samsung will be available in the coming months.The new Chromebooks are exclusively designed for educational and business purposes.
Both Xolo and Nexian Chromebooks have been priced at Rs 12, 999. Google claims these devices to be fast, easy to use and can be seen as a substitute to laptops.
The specs of both the Chromebook are similar. Both Nexian Air Chromebook and Xolo Chromebook sport a 11.6-inch TFT display at a resolution of 1366×768 pixels. It runs on a 1.8GHz Cortex A17 Rockchip quad core processor with 2GB DDR3 RAM. On the storage front, it comes with 16GB internal storage which can be expanded via SD card slot. On the connectivity front, it has 2 USB 2.0 ports, an HDMI port and Bluetooth 4.0 and is powered by a 4200mAh battery. It also has a 1MP web cam.
The new devices run on latest the Chrome OS which is based on Linux. The experience is similar to that of using an Android smartphone.
According to the company, Chromebooks are built to work work in an environment where connectivity can be spotty and people’s first experiences with technology are through a phone rather than laptop.
These come loaded with Google Apps for education aimed at helping teachers and students. Also, with the Chromebook Management Console, administrators can set up and manage up to thousands of Chromebooks from a computer or phone.
Google has also launched Chromebooks for Businesses and Chromebox for meetings. Chromebox for Meetings, priced at Rs 90,000, brings together Hangouts, Google Apps and easytomanage chromebox, making it simple and affordable for any company to have highdefinition video meetings.
These will also have features like built in security and virus protection.
