Apple could rollout iOS 12.1, which will enable the eSIM functionality on iPhones on October 30 itself, says a new report on 9to5Mac. Apple is also getting ready to launch new iPads, a new MacBook Air and a Mac Pro on October 30, which is tomorrow, at a special event in New York.

9to5Mac says that based on what they have heard from several different carrier sources iOS 12.1 will rollout tomorrow. The new update will bring eSIM support for iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR. In India, carriers like Airtel and Reliance Jio support the eSIM feature and will be adding this to the newly launched iPhones.

The report also quotes a now deleted tweet by Bharti Airtel, which confirmed the October 30 launch. The tweet was in response to a customer asking about the eSIM option. The tweet by Airtel said, “Hey Nilesh! Please be informed that Esim functionality for iPhone XS Max will be available effective 30-Oct when Apple releases iOS 12.1…”

Apple iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR all support dual-SIM features. However, instead of giving users the option of switching between two physical SIMs, Apple is adding on eSIM option. In India, Airtel is rolling out the eSIM option only for its postpaid customers. Reliance Jio is rolling this feature out to both prepaid and postpaid users.

Users will be able to accept calls from both numbers automatically.

Apple has already made the user guide for iOS 12.1 live. The update is also expected to bring features like Group Calls on FaceTime, live Depth Control on the new iPhones which will let users adjust the bokeh blur effect after they have taken a photo and as well as new emojis.
