Backbone has officially entered the Indian market with the launch of Backbone One, a premium gaming controller that snaps into Android and iOS devices and transforms them into handheld gaming consoles. With a starting price of Rs 7,769 for the lightning variant, the controller is currently available for purchase via Amazon, while the second-generation model costs Rs 12,400, and comes in both USB-C and lightning variants.
The Backbone One is a plug-and-play device, and requires no additional configuration. However, it also comes with a companion app for both Android and iOS devices, which allows further customisation and supports various cloud gaming services. There is also a PlayStation Edition of the Backbone One, inspired by the PS DualSense and can also be used to play console games.
The controller itself consists of analogue triggers, responsive thumbsticks, and a redesigned D-pad, and it has been designed with magnetic adapters to deliver a comfortable fit for phones of various sizes. While it is compatible with most smartphone games, it also officially supports titles like Call of Duty: Mobile, Genshin Impact, Minecraft, Diablo Immortal, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.
Unlike some of the smartphone controllers, the Backbone One has no battery, but has a 3.5mm headphone jack, allowing users to pair their wired earphones/headphones while gaming for a low-latency experience, and there is also a USB-C/lightning port, which can charge the phone while playing games.
