ChatGPT is arguably one of the biggest breakthroughs in recent times, allowing you to get done and dusted with trivial tasks in mere seconds and focus on what’s important. However, since it runs on the cloud, it requires internet connectivity at all times.
But what if you could run ChatGPT natively on your smartphone? A new app lets you do just that, letting you use the AI chatbot even without internet connectivity on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
Users can alternatively also try it on Windows, Linux, and even web browsers, but setting them up on these is somewhat complicated.
After you’ve downloaded the app on your iPhone, you’ll be greeted by a familiar interface – the chat window closely resembles iMessage with your texts appearing blue and the bot’s appearing grey. You can type your query towards the bottom and feed it to the chatbot using the send button. If you wish to start over, there’s a Reset button at the top-left corner.
The only downside is that MLC LLM is reportedly very slow, sometimes taking over 5 minutes to answer even simple queries. But that’s the cost of running an AI as powerful as ChatGPT on a device as tiny as your phone.
Regardless, the app serves as a good demonstration of the future of LLMs — as these models grow smaller and phones grow more powerful, perhaps the day each phone comes with a friendly chatbot preinstalled natively is not too distant.
