Adobe has introduced its new generative AI-powered assistant in Reader and Acrobat. Currently in beta, the new AI assistant is integrated into the Reader and Acrobat workflows. The new AI assistant is capable of generating summaries and insights from long documents, answering questions, and clean information to be shared in emails, presentations, and reports. The assistant brings the power of Generative AI to the masses. According to the company, the new assistant would help in unlocking new value from the information in over three trillion PDFs worldwide. Adobe’s new AI assistant is based on the same AI and machine learning models that are the foundation for Acrobat Liquid Mode, a technology that allows responsive reading experiences for PDFs on mobile. The proprietary models from Adobe offer a deep understanding of PDF content adding to the quality and reliability of outputs generated by the AI assistant. “Generative AI offers the promise of more intelligent document experiences by transforming the information inside PDFs into actionable knowledge and professional-looking content,” said Abhigyan Modi, senior vice president, Document Cloud, Adobe. “PDF is the de facto standard for the world’s most important documents, and the capabilities introduced today are just the beginning of the value AI Assistant will deliver through Reader and Acrobat applications and services,” he added. Ahead of the announcement, indianexpress.com had an exclusive preview of the AI Assistant. Throwing light on Adobe's legacy, Modi said, “Adobe, as you know, has been the inventor of the PDF format and the Acrobat application that goes around it. It was invented in 1993, more than 30 years ago, with a simple vision of ensuring that people can reliably communicate document information, exactly how the author intended." Modi added that the company began investing in AI for Acrobat over five years ago. “The key problem we were trying to solve was, how do you understand a document better?" As of now, Acrobat Individual, Pro, and Teams customers and those on the Acrobat Pro trial version can try the AI assistant beta. The features are expected to arrive on Acrobat Reader soon. A look at the capabilities of Adobe’s AI Assistant AI Assistant: It is capable of recommending questions based on a PDF’s content. It also answers questions about what’s in the document, all thanks to its intuitive conversational interface. Generative summary: The assistant lets you get a quick summary of the content from long documents. The summary is essentially a short overview in an easy-to-read format. Intelligent citations: This is one of the standout features. Adobe’s custom attribution engine and proprietary AI generate citations for customers to verify the source of the AI Assistant’s responses. Easy navigation: With clickable links, users can quickly find information they need from long documents. This feature saves time, and users can focus more on exploring the document for relevant information. Formatted output: When it comes to sharing information, the AI Assistant can consolidate and format information into top takeaways, text for emails, reports, and more. One can use the copy button to copy content and paste to share. It is to be noted that the AI Assistant can be used in all kinds of document formats such as Word, PowerPoint, meeting transcripts, etc. Adobe states that the AI Assistant features in Reader and Acrobat are governed by data security protocols, and no customer document content is stored or used for training AI Assistant without their consent. Reader and Acrobat users can access AI Assistant features via a new add-on subscription when out of beta. Beta features are free for Acrobat Standard/Pro Individual and Teams subscribers in English on desktop and web, with Reader support coming later. Other languages and private beta for enterprises are also planned.
