Andy Murray won the Wimbledon title for a second time on Sunday when he beat Milos Raonic 6-4, 7-6, 7-6 in under three hours. The win moves him further away from two-Slams with Stan Wawrinka and ends his run of two losses in a row in the Grand Slams final.
Murray had lost both the Australian Open and French Open finals to Novak Djokovic who was stunned earlier in the tournament by Sam Querrey.
Murray had last won Wimbledon in 2013 to end Great Britain’s long wait for the trophy at one of the most celebrated Slams in sport’s history.
Such was his joy at winning the title, he couldn’t let go after it was handed over to him on Centre Court and that celebration seemed to have continued into the ice bath which players normally take to recover.
With a caption of, “Holding this bad boy makes the ice bath that little bit more bearable”, Murray suggested how much it means to him to win a Grand Slam title.
Murray had already qualified for the year ending ATP World Tour finals by winning his semi-final and would like to make it two Slams in a row at the US Open. Or even add an Olympic medal along the way where he is slated to play in both singles and doubles with brother Jamie.
