Liverpool vs Arsenal, Premier League highlights: Dominik Szoboszlai wonder goal gives LIV 1-0 win over ARS

Seven minutes added on by the refs. Arsenal chasing a 0-1 deficit. And Mikel Arteta decides to throw on teenage wunderkind Max Dowman in place of Noni Madueke. 

Just three attempts from Arsenal in the second half, none on target. So the teenager needs to create something for Arsenal in the seven minutes left!

What a goal from Dominik Szoboszlai!

He curls a freekick from 30 yards out over the Arsenal three-man wall and into the top corner. Arsenal's Raya is well and truly beaten there! One of the best freekick goals you will ever see! It was Zubimendi who gave away that freekick by fouling Jones.

The two new Arsenal additions to the XI on the pitch -- Eberechi Eze and Martin Odegaard -- are combining well! First Eze combines with Viktor Gyokeres on the left wing and slides a pass into Martin Odegaard's path that is cut out by Ibrahima Konate. 

Then a few minutes later, both subs combine again and a pass from Odegaard almost finds Eze! 

Szoboszlai throws in a pin-point diagonal pass into Wirtz's feet. The man on the left wing brings it down like it's a feather. And then crossed the ball into the centre of the box to Salah, who errs in not shooting on first chance and instead taking one additional touch on the ball. The Arsenal defence hustles the ball off Salah. But Liverpool are starting to grow in this game now! 

Captain Martin Odegaard comes on in place of Merino! And Eberechi Eze takes the place of Martinelli. 

A double change on the 70th minute for the Gunners as they chase victory. 

We have seen 65 minutes by and Mo Salah is yet to have a chance or create one for his teammates! Then on the 67th minute, he bursts into the box from the right flank wiggling his way past Arsenal defenders fo a rare time tonight. But there are just too many Arsenal defenders to beat here! 

But that's a rare glimpe of Salah tonight! 

Arsenal star striker Viktor Gyokeres gets a yellow for a tackle on Van Dijk. The Liverpool defender snuck in from behind to get to the ball while the Arsenal striekr ended up getting the defender's feet and a yellow there! 

Liverpool have made their first change! Curtis Jones comes on for Alexis Mac Allister.

Liverpool think they hav a goal, but it's flagged off for offside! 

Florian Wirtz gets a throughball, and he controls the ball like a dream and then shoots the ball with his other foot. Raya does well to stop the ball, but Ekitike fumbles the ball into the net. He starts celebrating only to be told by the linesman that it's offside! 

WHAT A CHANCE FOR LIVERPOOL! 

Still goalless after 60 minutes

Liverpool's Mac Allister feeds Gravenberch, who's feeling up for a shot after banging in a goal against Newcastle United. Today's not his day, clearly as the shot has neither the power nor the accuracy needed to find the goal. It's way wide.

After 54 mins, Liverpool 0-0 Arsenal

A massive 45 minutes coming up for two teams who will be looking to lay an early marker in the league and boast of the only unbeaten record so far in the season. 

A rather scrappy affair at Anfield so far, but the intensity has been high – and not without drama either. Arsenal have probably been the better side in terms of chances created and the defensive solidity, but could have been heavily punished by a stray pass from goalkeeper David Raya. This one feels like a 1-0 win to either side, but will be interesting to see if both teams finish with 11 men on the pitch.

Goal-scoring chances have been few and far between for both teams in this clash, but Mikel Arteta will be the more pleased manager of the two. His side have, after all, taken six shots (one on target) compared to Liverpool's two. 

End-to-end action so far at Anfield. But no goals!

Another corner for Arsenal now and for the first time, Arsenal have the upper hand in terms of ball possession. Another Rice corner goes begging to be out into the goal! But isnt! 

What a chance this was! 

Started with Gyokeres holding off a Liverpool defender in the D and then laying the ball on a platter for Timber to crack a shot. Timeber's shot is just about blocked off!  

Noni Madueke is making things happen on the right flank for Arsenal. This time, there is a peach of a long ball that's hoofed from the defence over the final Liverpool defender, and Madueke finds it. He also manages to turn the ball to his favoured left foot. And just when he is about to curl one into the top far corner, a outstretched foot takes the sting away and the ball bounces out for a corner. On the corner, the ball was at the far post where there is no Arsenal head to make contact! 

After 35 mins, Liverpool 0-0 Arsenal

Liverpool get a slice of luck as Arsenal keeper Raya misplays the ball to the defender in front of him just outside the box. Soon the ball is in the feet of Van Dijk, and he puts his foot through the ball, but three Arsenal defenders collapse on him to block the shot. That was a close one!  

After 33 mins, Liverpool 0-0 Arsenal

We have the first yellow card of the match here! Liverpool's Gravenberch is the first man to go into the ref's naughty book after bringing down Calafiori who was galloping unchecked towards the Liverpool box. Gravenberch just clipped the Arsenal man's heels from behind and then tried to claim the opponent was brought down without any help from him. The ref's not having it. Yellow! 

After 28 mins, Liverpool 0-0 Arsenal

Noni Madueke bursts into the Liverpool box with a lung-bursting run from the left flank. And Kerkez stays on his side all through and just when it seems that Madueke will cross the ball, Kerkez times his tackle to perfection. It's a corner, and from that, the ball comes to Madueke's feet again. His shot is kept out by Allison, strong hands from the Liverpool keeper. 

16 minutes in, and Arsenal star man Viktor Gyokeres has had just one touch on the ball! ONE TOUCH!  Both teams are just feeling themselves in, so far. No surprise then that the only shot so far in the game has been from Liverpool, which was off target.

In off the ball runs, Liverpool's Salah and Wirtz have made 4, matched only by Arsenal's Gyokeres. 

In terms of sprints too, Arsenal's Gyokeres lkeads with 5. 

So far just the one shot from Liverpool, which was way off target. 

What a run from Martinelli! He goes from deep in Arsenal's half right up to Liverpool's touchline and then is marked closely by Konate, who intervenes just in time for the ball to be walked out for a goalkick! 

The field just opened up for the Arsenal forward! Acres of space and no Liverpool fielder around to block!

After 10 mins, Liverpool 0-0 Arsenal

Massive early blow for Arsenal. The Gunners are already without the likes of Bukayo Saka, Ben White, Christian Nogaard… captain Martin Odegaard is fit only for the bench. And now they have lost their talismanic central defender William Saliba in the first mins of the match. The injury record for the club remains wretched, but they at least have backups to deal with the situation with new signing Mosquera coming on for effectively his first full appearance for the club. Seasons may change, personnel may change, but apparently not Arsenal losing their main players due to injury.

Oh dear! After two injuries to Saka and Odegaard in the previous game, Arsenal suffer one more injury: this time, it's William Saliba who limps off and is replaced by Mosquera in the fifth minute!

An agressive press from Arsenal. After plenty of ball for Liverpool on their left flank, Timber has the ball and his throughball is just out of reach for Gyokeres.

Here we go! The Gunners get us started against the hosts at Anfield. A fiesty battle raging in the midfield already. 

Here's what Arne Slot, Liverpool boss, had to say before the clash against Arsenal : "In the beginning of the season, normally teams don't play their best game unless you keep the same squad completely and you add three, four, five, six or seven players, then you can maybe expect the team is growing even further. If you look at our situation, we have lost a few and we have added a few. 

"It is not starting all the way new again, but I think it is normal that we play even better – even better, not better but even better – in a few weeks than we do now. In the meantime, you can lose ground. Not a lot, although I would be surprised if there would be a points record this season in the Premier League."

Here's what Mikel Arteta, Arsenal boss, had to say before the clash against Liverpool: "They are champions for a reason, because they deserve to be champions. They were the better team last year, the most consistent one, the one that found ways to win in many different ways and we want to be that team this year. We need to go to Anfield with that spirit and that conviction.

"It's a very important one and we want to continue building the momentum that we are in right now. Going to those grounds, those stadiums, against this kind of opposition is what we want and coming away from those big games, winning in a really convincing way. That's the objective." 

Liverpool are currently undefeated in the Premier League after two games, but they have conceded twice in both games. (In fact, they have also conceded two goals in the Community Shield against Crystal Palace). 

In all three games, Liverpool have let leads slip, starting with their penalty shootout defeat to Palace. 

Then, in the Premier League. Arne Slot's men let a 2-0 advantage slip against Bournemouth at Anfield. Thanks to late strikes from Enrico Chiesa and Mohamed Salah, the Reds managed to salvage a 4-2 win. Then, they again let slip a two-goal lead advantage at 10-man Newcastle United. Thankfully for them, 16-year-old Rio Ngumoha helped them salvage a victory in the 100th minute to clinch a 3-2 success. 

Mikel Arteta was an Arsenal player, back in September 2012, when the Gunners had last won a clash vs Liverpool at the Anfield.

But Arsenal travel to Liverpool's fortress, knowing they have the wind beneath their sails.

Why? 

Because

a) Arteta's men are unbeaten in their last six matches against the Reds; 

b) Arsenal haven’t suffered a league defeat on the road since November 

c) The Gunners are unbeaten against the ‘Big Six’ in their last 22 matches.

For Liverpool, Alexis Mac Allister is back in the starting XI. The Argentina midfielder returns for today’s Premier League clash with Arsenal at Anfield, is back in Liverpool’s starting line-up after missing Monday’s win at Newcastle United.

Mac Allister replaces Curtis Jones, which remains the only change that the Premier League champions are making for the clash vs Arsenal. 

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has made two changes to his starting line-up for the Premier League game against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday. Last season’s two goalscorers in this clash with Liverpool, Gabriel Martinelli and Mikel Merino, are back in the starting XI. 

Martinelli, in particular, relishes playing against Liverpool's home: he has scored four goals in his five appearances at Anfield. He takes the place of the injured Bukayo Saka (out with a hamstring injury, picked up in the Gunners' 5-0 win over Leeds United). Martin Odegaard, meanwhile, is fit enough for a spot on the bench, with Merino taking his starting spot.

New arrival Eberechi Eze is included alongside Arsenal skipper amongst the replacements, as is youngster Andre Harriman-Annous who is included on a first-team bench for the first time.

Michael Salisbury, the official who was scheduled to be the Video Assistant Referee for the Liverpool vs Arsenal Premier League match at Anfield, was replaced hours before kickoff on Sunday, reportedly because of a mistake he made in the same role during the fixture between Chelsea and Fulham on Saturday.

The Associated Press reported that John Brooks will be taking Salisbury's place.

Salisbury was the VAR who intervened to ask match referee Rob Jones to go to the pitchside monitor after Fulham midfielder Josh King scored what appeared to be the opening goal 21 minutes into the game against Chelsea. The goal was chalked off because Fulham striker Rodrigo Muniz was deemed to have stepped on Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah during the buildup to the goal, despite minimal contact.

Liverpool are winless in SIX Premier League matches against Arsenal (D4 L2). This is the Anfield club's longest winless run against the Gunners since going eight without a win between October 2007 and April 2011.
    
The last three Premier League games between Liverpool and Arsenal at Anfield have all been drawn, while the Gunners are winless in their last 12 away games against the Reds (D5 L7) since a 2-0 win back in September 2012, with manager Mikel Arteta starting for the Gunners that day.
