Ahead of U-19 World Cup final against AUS, pacer Naman Tiwary says Jasprit Bumrah is an inspiration

On asked what his aim is as a cricketer, Tiwary said that he wanted to bowl the fastest delivery in the world.

India U-19 pacer Naman Tiwary said Jasprit Bumrah was a source of inspiration for the team which is currently in South Africa, preparing to take on Australia in the World Cup final on Sunday.

“(Jasprit) Bumrah is a source of inspiration for us. I watch his bowling videos a lot. I have met him several times at NCA and talked to him a lot about the mentality and skills of a bowler,” the 18-year-old told PTI.

The left arm pacer who has taken 10 wickets in the tournament, also shared insights on the performance of the team in the tournament thus far.

“We have been performing pretty well and showed a good approach in the semifinal. I am very happy that we are performing this way and hope to carry that in the final as well,” he said.

“I try to pick up different things from different bowlers. Like Shoaib Akhtar’s pace, the accuracy of Dale Steyn and the aggression of Mitchell Starc. I like these things as a left arm seamer and learn a lot of things from them,” Tiwary added.

On asked what his aim is as a cricketer, Tiwary said that he wanted to bowl the fastest delivery in the world.

“I want to bowl the fastest delivery in the world and want to play a part in helping India win a senior World Cup,” the player said.

“I like playing in all three formats but in a Test match I think there are a lot of challenges and it’s a pretty crucial time for a bowler,” the player said.

India defeated South Africa by 2 wickets in the semifinal on Tuesday while Australia edged Pakistan by 1 wicket in the other semifinal thereby setting up a summit clash against each other which is the repeat of the 2023 Men’s World Cup final.
