Former Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and ICC president Mustafa Kamal, who is now the Finance Minister in the Bangladesh government, said Shakib al Hasan’s ban is a big loss for the country but that the all-rounder has shown his honesty in owning up to the mistake.
“Shakib al Hasan has committed this mistake because he is simple. His ban is a big loss for Bangladesh for a year,” Mustafa Kamal told Indian Express Bengali on Thursday.
“Shakib has shown his honesty by owning up to the mistake. But he should have informed the Bangladesh Cricket Board or the Bangladesh Prime Minister earlier,” he added.

Shakib Al Hasan, the world’s No.1 ODI all-rounder, has been banned for two years (one of those suspended), by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for failing to report corrupt approaches by a bookie to fix matches.
“I am obviously extremely sad to have been banned from the game I love, but I completely accept my sanction for not reporting the approaches. The ICC ACU is reliant on players to play a central part in the fight against corruption and I didn’t do my duty in this instance,” Shakib said in a media release.
