IPL 2025, RR vs MI highlights: Mumbai Indians beat Rajasthan Royals by 100 runs

The partnership between Archer and Madhwal is dragging too long for the liking of the Mumbai Indians. It would not hurt them but they just would want to close it as quickly as possible. Karn Sharma is also done for the day and he did have a brilliant outing today. By the time he came into bowl the game was set up for him and all he had to do was toss a few up and bowl line and length and that is what he did and reaped the rewards. It has been a perfect performance for Mumbai Indians so far.

Karn Sharma picks up another wicket here, and it is Theekshana who tries to hit in the air and ends up giving a simple catch to Suryakumar Yadav at covers. Rajasthan has now lost its eighth wicket, and the pitch is gripping for Karn Sharma. At toss, Riyan Parag mentioned the dew coming in, and before the batters could have taken any advantage of it if there was any Royals have already lost eight wickets. And as we update, Karthikeya too has perished, and once again it is Karn Sharma who tosses one up to the batter and gets holed out by long-on fielder.

Dhruv Jurel tried to sweep a delivery of Karn Sharma, which took the top edge and looped into the air as the bowler ended up taking a simple catch to get rid of the batter. With that wicket, Rajasthan has lost all the recognised batters. Jofra Archer and Maheesh Theekshana are in the middle and would be looking to bat as long as possible. And as per Mumbai we have seen an animated Hardik Pandya urging his teammates to keep pushing for the win and bundle out Rajasthan for a low total which will give a spike in the NRR.

Mumbai Indians have brought in Karn Sharma as the impact sub to bowl through these middle overs. With the current game situation, it might not be the most difficult job for him as long as he sticks to lines and lengths with clever variations. As per the Royals, it was an important game for them, not only does it feel like they were going to lose the match, but seems like they will also lose it with quite a margin and Dhruv Jurel who is batting in the middle has to take the responsibility to reduce the margin. But apart from this is quite difficult situations for Royals to salvage anything out of this game.

Mumbai Indians' new bowling attack is turning into quite a force this season all of a sudden. Even in the game against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, the new bowling pair reduced SRH to 34/5, and again they have reduced Rajasthan to five wickets down by the seventh over. The opening combination of Deepak Chahar and Trent Boult did take a bit of time to get going but once they have started to do it Mumbai has started to look a different side altogether and as we update Hardik Pandya has picked up the wicket of Shubman Dubey. He tried hit the ball on the leg-side and got holed at long-off.

Bumrah has picked up two more wickets. First, it was Riyan Parag and then it was Shimron Hetmyer. The Royals have lost five wickets in the powerplay and are in deep trouble. It is increasingly seeming like one of those games when one of the teams, which has the potential to win the trophy, steamrolls a certain side which is in a bit of pickle. It is a must win for Rajasthan and not only are they behind in this game but are also under serious threat of losing this game in a big way. What a bowling performance this has been from MI.

Riyan Parag has started his innings well so far. He and Nitish Rana must build a partnership for a bit. Though it is quite high, chase and run rate can climb up quite quickly in games like this, it is also important that there are wickets in hand when the game reaches the 15th over mark. More often than not, in games like this, teams lose early wickets and panic and start swinging at everything instead of looking for a partnership. Also, one more additional thing the Royals have to worry about in this game is the four overs of Bumrah and as we update Boult picks up Rana.

Two overs into this game, Rajasthan Royals have already lost two wickets in the chase. First, it was Vaibhav Suryavanshi who tried to hit the ball through the on-side and got holed out by the fielder there, and then it was Yashasvi Jaiswal who tried to whack the ball on the leg-side, missed, and the ball hit the middle stumps. This is a superb start for the Mumbai Indians. Though we are 22 overs into this contest, it seems like only one side has turned up today which is Mumbai. Rajasthan just seems to be going through the motion so far.

It was important to get off to a good start. Looking at a couple of overs, the ball was coming on nicely and we took our chances. Wanted to hit straight as much as possible. It was kind of skidding, we thought that hitting in a straight direction was a good option. (On his review) The only thing I was worried about was if it was pitching in line or not, it was a knuckle ball so knew it wouldn’t bounce over. Took my chance and it paid off. (Rickelton) Works really hard on his game and understands his game very well. Understands which bowler to target and picks his spot well. If he continues to bat like that, it augurs very well for us. Nice for us to get off to that start. It’s very important for us to understand the pitch and use the variations. We shouldn't be predictable and use the longer side well. The guys are pretty experienced in what they do and understand what is expected of them. It’s a good score and we can hopefully defend it. If we get a couple of wickets in the powerplay we can put the brakes on them. If you look at our batting line-up, lot of these guys haven’t batted for a few games. Gives us the confidence to go out there and bat freely. Most often it comes off knowing that we’ve got a strong middle order. Even in the last game, those 30-40 runs by Bosch made a difference.

That is a superb partnership between Surya and Hardik after the initial opening partnership. This is a massive score for the Royals to get. While they did manage to get over the line chasing a similar one in the previous encounter, it requires a different skill altogether against the quality of the Mumbai Indians. Once again, it is the bowling department that has struggled to do significant damage for the Royals. Surya and Hardik have put on a 50-run stand here. This has been quite easy for the Mumbai Indians; they have not had to go out of their way to score the runs. In the initial few overs, Rajasthan did start well, but once the ball lost a bit of shine, it has been one-way traffic. While there are plans to bowl full, the execution seems to be off. Intially, it was Surya who took charge of this partnership and since the timeout Hardik has joined the party. This is already a pretty good score and with the bowling they have got in the second innings it will be quite a tasks for Royals to chase these.

This is another nice partnership brewing here between Hardik and Surya, which is threatening the Rajasthan Royals. Despite picking two quick wickets Royals have failed to keep the pressure intact. They are once again in danger of conceding a lot of runs in the final overs. A strategic time-out has been taken. The good thing is Royals still have two overs of Archer left, which they would be hoping they will go well. Apart from that, It should be a cake walk for Mumbai Indians to 200 from here on.

Rajasthan has managed to get out two set batters, and there are new batters in the middle, and this is the time they need to pull back things. Can they squeeze it back completely Only time will tell, but they can definitely use the passage to get few quiet overs. Suryakumar Yadav though, since coming in has played his shots here and a cameo from him will do a lot of damage to Royals. Hardik meanwhile as now is settling into the surface. Mumbai with the foundation they have got in this game they should be looking to get 200 at least.

Theekshana gets the breakthrough. The batter tried to hit the ball on the leg side and missed it completely. It was a much-needed wicket for the Mumbai Indians. Suryakumar Yadav has walked into the middle, and he started the innings with a boundary. We are also seeing Riyan Parag operating at the moment. It will be interesting to see how Rohit Sharma plays from here. He has gone about things quite smoothly so far. And as we update, Riyan Parag picks another wicket, and it is the wicket of Rohit Sharma. The batter tried to hit one down the ground and was caught by the fielder there.

This has been a fluent partnership between Rohit and Rickelton. They did start a tad bit slowly, but as the innings went on, the acceleration has been superb. While Rickleton has taken the backfoot in the last few overs, it has been Rohit who picked up the pace. With the start they have got, Mumbai Indians should be looking to get 220 at least. The beauty of this batting order is that they do not need to make any batting changes to keep the momentum. The quality of the batters is such that every batter coming in can take on the bowling equally well.

This is turning into quite a productive opening partnership here. Rohit has played the second fiddle here while Rickelton has gone after the bowling, and once the powerplay is done, Rohit too seems to have picked up the tempo. This opening duo,, when it was put together, has always threatened to do something like this. Hardik Pandya and the management would be happy that it is all coming together for them at this stage of the tournament, when it matters the most. From the Royals perspective they once again seems to be short on tactics and are struggling with plans.

The last couple of overs of powerplay, Rickelton has broken the shackles to up the scoring rate. While this has been the problem for Rajasthan through the campaign, they do start well, but they just struggle to keep the pressure on, and that is what has happened today and with the start Mumbai has got, they will be looking to post a big total with the firepower in the batting order. Another massive issue for Rajasthan this season has been how poor their bowling attack has been at the death. Kumar Kartikeya has come into the attack who has plyied his trade in Mumbai in the last few seasons.

Well this is not the start both teams would have hoped for. From a Mumbai perspective,, they would have loved to have gotten a few more runs than what they have managed to get thus far. And from the Rajasthan Persepctive, they would have hoped to pick up at least one more wicket. Also, there is a slight drizzle on the ground at the moment. It is visible enough, but seems like not good enough to stop the game. Quite a strange 30 minutes of cricket we have had so far. While Rohit Sharma has been a bit subdued, Rickelton has taken the attack onto the opposition.

We had a close call with Rohit Sharma. Farooqi's delivery hit the pads, and the umpire did give it out however, Rohit opted to review the decision, and the impact was marginally missing as it was pitching outside the leg-stump. Maheesh Theekshana has come into the attack early on here, and the breeze too seems to have calmed down in the last 5 minutes or so. And this is quite a sedate start from Mumbai usually, we see them go all guns blazing, but it seems like the breeze and the way the ball has hopped around in the first two overs did seem to play their part.

Jofra Archer has taken the new ball here. There has not been much swing on offer, which is to be expected on this ground. However, the first couple of balls did move a bit. This is a different ground when compared to others in IPL. The scoring here is not as high as some, and the way teams assess the first innings score is quite difficult. Also, there is heavy wind blowing across the ground, and it is dusty as well which will come into play in how the ball moves and how the batters opt to play the shots. Viewing of the ball can get quite difficult as well with that heavy wind.

Both the openers are in the middle. Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma both have been in decent form coming into this contest and to challenge them Jofra Archer has the new ball and he has been superb form as well. It is going to be a cracking contest do stay with us

And we are back here in Jaipur once again for this contest which is phenomenally important. It is a very hot summer, suggesting 38-39 degrees. I am standing on pitch 5, to my left about 60 meters, a little bit shorter to my right 57 meters and 69 down the ground. The overhead conditions are slightly different, the other night there was a substantial breeze that was blowing across the ground. Today we see slightly less covering of grass compared to the record breaking innings the other night. But I still it is a very good surface. I am trying to push into these cracks and they are not moving one bit. What we have here is a very good batting surface. 190 will be an absolute par score on a very hot and relatively still evening."

We would've bowled first as well. It has always been about how we can play good cricket. The conversation was always about how we can get better, we've spoken about the same and nothing changes. We want to be fearless and not let fear of failure kick in. Don't decide how much we need to put on, have a set marker but we need to analyze the wicket. Quite confident about batting on this wicket. There hasn't been much dew around. We go with the same team.

We'll bowl first. We might see some dew later. Usually the wicket settles down a little later at night. Want to exploit that. We've kept it very simple regardless of winning or losing. Rahul sir has made it clear, we keep it simple whether we go high or low. Three games ago, the message was we take it one game at a time. If we play to our potential, we know how good we can be. Rohit Sharma's performance statistics for the current IPL season with the Mumbai Indians. So far, in nine innings, he has scored 240 runs at an average of 30. His most notable innings was an unbeaten 76 off just 45 balls against the Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium, which helped his team secure a convincing nine-wicket victory. This highlights his ability to deliver impactful performances, especially in crucial matches.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi's impressive performances leading up to his record-breaking IPL century. At 10:30 PM, during the 11th over of their chase against Gujarat Titans, Rajasthan Royals' Vaibhav Suryavanshi, at just 14 years and 32 days old, became the youngest player to score an IPL century.  His 35-ball hundred was also the second-fastest in IPL history. His remarkable innings of 101 runs off 38 balls (7 fours, 11 sixes) led Rajasthan Royals to successfully chase down Gujarat Titans' total of 209 in just 15.5 overs in Jaipur.  Even head coach Rahul Dravid, despite being on a wheelchair due to injury, stood up to applaud this historic feat.

Raghu Sharma, born in Jalandhar in March 1993, is a right-arm leg-break bowler with a notable first-class record (57 wickets at 19.59 average in 11 matches). He has represented Punjab and Puducherry in domestic cricket and has also played a few List A and T20 matches. This IPL season with the Mumbai Indians is his first IPL stint, and he has been signed at his base price of ?30 lakhs.

Vignesh Puthur's positive impact in his debut IPL season for the Mumbai Indians. He notably took three wickets against Chennai Super Kings in his very first IPL match. Overall, in the five games he played, Puthur secured six wickets with an economy rate of 9.08. This highlights his promising start before his unfortunate injury cut his season short.

Mumbai Indians' bowler Vignesh Puthur is out for the rest of the IPL 2025 season due to bone stress reactions in his shins. The five-time champions have replaced him with 32-year-old leg-spinner Raghu Sharma, who has a good domestic record and was previously part of Mumbai's support staff. Puthur made his IPL debut this season, playing five matches and taking six wickets. Sharma has been signed at his base price of ?30 lakhs as Mumbai Indians aim to solidify their position in the top half of the points table.

The temperature in Jaipur on Thursday is expected to be pretty warm, with mercury rising to 41 degrees Celsius during the day which comes down to 27 degrees during the time of the match, according to the AccuWeather app. 

As witnessed by the last match played here, you can expect plenty of runs from the Sawai Mansingh Stadium strip which has been the batters’ paradise this season. This is the same ground where Suryavanshi had slammed the second fastest IPL century against Gujarat. With both teams boasting decent amount of big hitters, another high scoring game will be on the offing.

Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya lauded his team after a comfortable seven-wicket win over a reeling Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League 2025 match at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Wednesday. He said Mumbai will be a completely dominating side once everyone starts clicking.

“Good to have wins behind our back. Glad the boys are taking the momentum in the right way. I’ve felt, once everyone starts clicking in this team there will be domination. Deepak, Boult set it up; Rohit, SKY (Suryakumar) finished it. Overall, a wonderful win,” said Pandya after the match.

Rohit Sharma’s take-no-prisoners style of batting at the start of the innings in the T20 format has proven to be a high-risk, high-reward strategy in the powerplay overs. While it has led to Rohit getting out early in games, it has also yielded rich rewards when it clicks. Now, in an interview, Rohit has admitted that the strategy doesn’t always pay off, but added that he will not be tweaking his style of batting anytime soon.

Recently in an interview with JioHotstar, Mumbai Indians’ talisman Suryakumar Yadav spoke at length about his IPL experiences. He also opened up about making his debut for Mumbai in 2012. 

"I barely slept the night before my debut for Mumbai Indians — went to bed around 4 or 5 in the morning. There was so much excitement. Playing for a franchise brings a different kind of buzz. I was just enjoying the moment, thinking about stepping onto the field for warm-up and as soon as I did, I was already sweating. It felt really good," Surya said. 

After being bought by MI in the 2011 auction for Rs 10 lakh, Surya had the worst debut imaginable in IPL 2012. He faced four balls in that game against the Pune Warriors at the Wankhede Stadium before getting dismissed without scoring a run. He played his next IPL game two seasons later in IPL 2014.

Mumbai Indians announced that Vignesh Puthur’s IPL 2025 season is over after an injury. The five-time champions have announced leg-spinner Raghu Sharma as a replacement for Puthur, who made his IPL debut for the Mumbai franchise this season. The franchise revealed that the player had “bone stress reactions in both his shins”.

Puthur made a mark in his first IPL season. He memorably claimed three wickets against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) earlier in IPL 2025 in a game that was his IPL debut. Puthur’s returns for this season amounted to six wickets from the five games he played in at an economy rate of 9.08.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru, apart from sitting on top of the points table, also have their pacer Josh Hazlewood on top of the Purple Cap list. The Australian has 18 scalps and has been a mainstay for RCB in powerplay and death overs. Prasidh Krishna (17) and Noor Ahmad (15) make up top three.  

The top three teams in the points table also have their representation in the Orange cap list. Gujarat Titans' opener Sai Sudharsan, who has scored five half-centuries, holds the Orange Cap with 456 runs in nine matches, averaging over 50. Virat Kohli of Royal Challengers Bengaluru has hit the most fifties in IPL 2025 and is second behind Sudharsan (443 runs in 10 matches). WIth 427 runs in 10 matches, Mumbai Indians'  Suryakumar Yadav is third on the list.

A do-or-die match for the Rajasthan Royals when they take on an in-form Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League 2025 Match No. 50 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Thursday.
