MI vs LSG Highlights, IPL 2024: Lucknow finish with 18-run win as Rohit fifty goes in vain

MI need 34 to win. Short ball from Naveen and Dhir slaps it over wide long-on for SIX and brings up his half-century! In the air and Krunal Pandya pulls off a blinder to save a SIX! Naveen hits the slot and Dhir pumps it down the ground but Krunal has timed his leap to perfection and put the ball back within the boundary to deny the maximum. Dhir nearly finds himself short at the non-striker's from the throw. Naveen to Kishan, OUT! Dragged on! Kishan's sluggish knock comes to an end, so has MI's season. Dhir completes the season with a gorgeous SIX but MI will end up with the wooden spoon and an 18-run loss.

Mohsin nearly lands a wide yorker but Dhir has managed to scythe it over backward point for SIX! Short ball this time and Dhir belts it over mid-wicket for another SIX. A couple of singles to follow. 

The no ball saves Naman! Naveen constricts Dhir with a quick bouncer and the hook scoops up straight to the square-leg fielder but the bowler has overstepped. Dhir thwacks the free hit down the ground for FOUR. A single to follow. Kishan shuffles across to a low full-toss and scoops it for FOUR.

Krunal starts with a couple of tight deliveries. He slides one in and Dhir drags it through the on-side for a FOUR. Krunal wafts one in on the full and Dhir biffs it high over long-on for SIX!

Henry returns with a bumper and Dhir swivels to hook it behind square for FOUR. Henry regains his lines and forces Kishan and Dhir to squeeze deliveries on either side of the wicket for a string of ones and twos. 

Bishnoi to Wadhera, OUT! The implosion continues. Googly on the full and Wadhera miscues the slog-sweep and delivers a simple catch for the long-on fielder. Naman Dhir walks in. He slices a loosener behind point and is off the blocks with a FOUR.

Mohsin to Hardik, OUT! The ploy works! Mohsin constricts Hardik with a firm bumper and he slashes it to a straighter third fielder.

ishnoi drops the ball short and wide, and Hardik smashes it through extra cover for a FOUR. He clips the next to deep mid-wicket for two runs. The boundaries need to keep coming at a decent clip for MI with the asking rate soaring north of 14. And Hardik takes off with a huge SIX over cover. A single to follow.

Krunal skims through a tight over. Kishan and Hardik tread with singles with Krunal taming his younger brother with deliveries angling into the pad.

Bishnoi sends one skidding through the strip and Rohit attempts a reverse-sweep but misses. Rohit shuffles across and slog-sweeps Bishnoi from length this time to bisect long-on and deep mid-wicket for FOUR. Bishnoi to Rohit, OUT! Balloons one straight to short-third. Rohit gives it away to a half-volley outside-off. He gets a thick outside-edge and it lobs straight to Mohsin. Rohit trudges back as his season comes to a close. Hardik Pandya walks in at 5.

Krunal to Suryakumar, OUT! Another duck for SKY! Krunal wafts one in and Suryakumar sweeps it straight to Bishnoi at backward square-leg. Ishan Kishan is in at 4. He is off the mark with a single. Rohit clips one through square-leg and reels in two runs.

Naveen sends in a low full-toss and Brevis carts it for FOUR. Fraction short this time and Brevis whacks it over mid-wicket for SIX! Naveen to Brevis, OUT! Fails to nail it this time. In the slot to be hit again but Brevis miscues the slog over cover this time and finds the fielder in the deep. Suryakumar Yadav is in at 3.

Ravi Bishnoi is into the attack

Brevis drags the first ball for a single. Bishnoi overpitches and Rohit creams it through cover with a blistering FOUR. Bishnoi slides one in and Rohit nails the paddle for FOUR.

Rohit gets a leading edge as he slashes across the line and a good delivery from Mohsin has crossed the third fence for FOUR with Bishnoi fumbling in the deep. Width again and Rohit smears it past point for another FOUR. Beaten! Mohsin hits the channel as Rohit fails to connect the cut this time. Bang! There's the vintage Hitman! Rohit shimmies down and pulverises the length ball down the ground for SIX! And it's fifty up for Rohit.

A couple of singles to start Naveen-ul-Haq's over. Rohit's timing has been a tad weak after the resumption. Short ball outside the off-stump and Rohit hangs his bat out over point for an iffy FOUR. Fuller ball and Rohit mistimes a cross-seamer over mid-off for FOUR. Rohit follows up with a single.

Mohsin Khan into the attack

Mohsin offers a loosener outside off-stump and Rohit taps it through cover for FOUR. Wide ball on the full and Rohit gets a thick outside-edge past Rahul for another FOUR. Three dots to follow as Rohit swings one aimlessly across the line. A single to follow.

Rohit and Brevis return to the crease with a ball left in Krunal's fourth over, MI at 33/0 in a mammoth 215-run chase. A dot to end the fourth over.

The game will resume at 10.50 pm, with no loss in overs.

The covers are gradually coming off and the super soppers have begun rolling across the outfield. 

The covers are firmly in place but the rains have relented. The umpires have walked out to inspect the outfield with a few visible wet patches out there.

Arshad returns with an impressive over, needling in the yorkers and bouncers to Rohit and Brevis. Just three runs from the over and Mumbai are forced to take more risks in the rest of the powerplay.

Matt Henry is into the attack. 

Henry lands one on length and Rohit slams it over mid-wicket for SIX with sheer nonchalance. Back-of-a-length and Rohit stands tall and pumps the ball over mid-off for SIX. He laps another behind square for a single.

Arshad swings the first ball high on to Rohit's pad. Leading edge with a bit of away movement and Rohit gets a streaky FOUR past point. A couple of singles to follow. Eight from the over.

Shepherd offers width outside off-stump and Badoni wallops it over cover for SIX! In the slot this time and Badoni makes a charge to the off-side and lofts the ball over sweeper for another SIX. Shepherd comes around the stumps this time and tails it across the turf. Badoni swipes it through mid-wicket for a FOUR this time! A couple of dots to finish a 19-run over as LSG end up on 214.

Thushara sends in a bumper and Krunal parries it behind square for FOUR. A string of ones and twos to follow as Thushara attacks the stumps against Badoni and Krunal.

Piyush to Rahul, OUT! Three wickets in as many balls for MI. Rahul attempts a sweep but the top-edge lobs up straight to short fine-leg. What a mini turnaround has this been for the hosts. Krunal Pandya has walked in and pumped the first ball for a SIX down the ground to break the rut. Chawla finishes up neatly with an eight-run over.

Thushara is back. He slides one in and Pooran slices it through mid-wicket for FOUR. Thushara goes the other with an overpitched delivery and Pooran flays it through extra cover for FOUR. Thushara to Pooran, OUT! He fails to clear the fence this time. He attempts a helicopter-like whip from a wide angle outside the off-stump but sends it straight to Suryakumar at long-on. He finishes on 75 off 29 deliveries in what's been nothing short of carnage out in the middle. Back-to-back wickets for Thushara! Arshad Khan cannot reproduce the magic from the other day in Delhi as he balloons the first ball to the mid-off fielder.

Rahul taps a full-toss from Romario Shepherd through wide long-on and gets to his half-century in 37 deliveries. The key here from the skipper is to shift the gears adeptly with Pooran around at the other end. Shepherd offers him ample width and Rahul scythes it behind point for FOUR. He attempts another slash but a diving Rohit denies a run at point.

Sandip G: Nicholas Pooran walked past his off stump, opened up his stance and shaped to whip the ball finely past the backward square leg. He was entirely front-on, channeling his inner Fawad Alam and Shivnarine Chanderpaul. The end product was the most bizarre shot you would watch. He tried to whip the ball, but he was early into the stroke, deceived by the slowness of the surface, and he lost his shape. Nonetheless, the ball found a chunky inside edge that missed the stumps (he was anyway too far from his furniture), the shocked wicket-keeper and rolled past the fine leg fielder. A french cut of sorts, one that is . Pooran smiled wryly. The unfortunate bowler Anshul Kamboj looked petrified. He would curse his luck even more, as he tonked him for a pair of sixes and another four. All flowing from the sweetest part of the blade. But it is this shot that most would remember, and he himself would watch the replay to understand what exactly happened.

Arjun Tendulkar is back and Pooran welcomes him with a monstrous swipe over backward square-leg for SIX - 89 metres! Short from Tendulkar but Pooran smashes it over mid-wicket for another SIX - 19 ball fifty for Nicky P! And Tendulkar has gone off the field in what is suspected as a cramp. Rohit Sharma comes in as the sub fielder again. Naman Dhir steps up to finish the over. SIX moree! Pooran slog-sweeps Dhir for a 101m SIX over mid-wicket. Pooran makes room and slaps the ball through cover but it falls just short of the fence for FOUR. Dhir follows up with a yorker and Pooran digs it out for a single. And Rahul joins in on the fun with a slog over long-on for SIX.

Hardik returns with a fuller delivery outside the off-stump and Pooran smokes it over extra cover for SIX! Length ball again and Pooran clobbers it over deep mid-wicket for another SIX! He has moved to 42 off 16 balls with Rahul on 41 (34) at the other!

Kamboj overpitches and Pooran gets away with an inside-edge down leg for FOUR. Kamboj sends in a wide yorker but Pooran guides it down to third for another FOUR. Shoddy bowling from the seamer as he offers another length delivery that Pooran happily deposits in the mid-wicket stand for SIX! SIX more! Pooran's firing on all cylinders now. He has carved a rank full-toss here over Brevis at deep point for a maximum. 

Hardik Pandya enters the attack. Rahul continues to nudge about the field tepidly for a couple of twos. Hardik overpitches and Rahul watchfully drives through covers for another two with the fielder cutting the boundary in the deep. A couple of singles to follow and Hardik errs with a loosener down leg and Rahul slices it fine for a four this time.

Anshul Kamboj is back for his second over and he wavers on length with a couple of wides. Anshul lands one short and Pooran gets off the blocks with a huge pull over mid-wicket for SIX. 

The lack of big hits has finally culminated with another wicket! Piyush Chawla's persistence finally induces an aerial slice from Deepak Hooda behind point and Nehal Wadhera puts in a sensational dive to prize out the wicket. He has probably hurt him in the process but Lucknow's problems continue.

Whatever LSG is trying to accomplish in this inning is not working at the moment. As Deepak Hooda tried to play an inside-out shot got the outside edge and got out at point. With not many runs on the board LSG has already lost three wickets

We have reached the first strategic time out and it has been a sedate start from LSG. Neither is Mumbai going all guns blazing they are trying out a few players. Wadhera bowled a second over and seems like both KL Rahul and Hooda have no intention to take him on at this point.

Another excellent over from Piyush Chawla six singles have come off it. Looks like LSG wants to play proper old-fashioned cricket here set the foundation initially and take on the bowling in the final overs. 

Surprise, surprise Nehal Wadhera came into attack and bowled some leg-spin. A couple of hit-me bowls were there as expected in the part-time first over-started pack but the LSG batters could not make full use of it. It will be interesting is Hardik will bowl or not today.

Hardik Pandya has brought in Piyush Chawla and the bowler took a little beating however, he had the last laugh as Stoinis who was playing lovely shots down the ground for some strange reason decided to sweep and missed the ball was given out LBW.

Arjun has changed ends and another good over from the bowler. This has been impressive from the young Tendulkar he has hit the right lengths and the pitch has helped him. However, the concerning thing is the pace at which overs are bowled in this game,

Kamboj has been brought into the attack and Stoinis muscled the bowler back over his head time and again. Finally much needed big over for LSG early in the piece. Also interesting tactic by Hardik to take of Arjun from the attack despite excellent first over.

Tushara has been given the second over and the ball is still moving around. The LSG players seem to be aware of the swing available and are approaching this innings cautiously at the moment. Also, MI does not have Bumrah today who has been excellent at death in the season.

Arjun Tendulkar on his first match of the season bowled an excellent over. He did get an LBW appeal his way against Marcus Stoinis however, the batter reviewed the decision and Ball Tracking indicated the ball had been going over the stumps.

Excellent first over from Nuwan Tushara he bowled a full one to get rid of in-form Devdutt Padikkal. After that, he bowled a couple of wides as well. There seems to be some swing on offer with the new ball here. This is an inexperienced bowling attack will be interesting to see how Hardik uses his bowlers today.

Though there is not much riding on the game it still has some quality players on the show hence expect some top-class cricket. It is going to be a cracking contest stay with us for all the updates through the evening.

Quinton misses out, Devdutt comes in. Matt Henry comes in. Those are the big changes. Obviously disappointed. We started well in the season. Couple of weeks ago we were sitting in the top four. But that's how the tournament is. It's an opportunity today to come out and play our best cricket and entertain the crowd.

We're going to bowl. Chasing is better in Wankhede. It comes on nicer in the evening. It's always about playing for the badge, playing for pride - all those words are important in the group. We know where we stand. But ending the season playing good cricket will always be appreciated. It gives us more freedom maybe to go out there and express ourselves.

72 meters down the ground, 66 meters on one side, 61 meters on the other. Fourth time this pitch is being used. Looks like a typical Mumbai pitch. Going to be a lot of runs, but there will also be a bit of help for the spinners. Little cracks are there which means the pitch is a little dry. If spinners are used well, they can put brakes on the batters.
