Hasan Mahmud was in his right to run Ish Sodhi out at the non-striker’s end in the 46th over of the New Zealand innings during their ODI in Dhaka on Saturday.

The umpires would deem the New Zealand batter out and he was well on his way to the pavilion when a twist in the tale saw the Bangladesh captain Litton Das have a chat with the umpires to recall Sodhi. A decision that eventually saw the New Zealand international hug Mahmud as he made his way back to the crease.

Sodhi would go on to 35 runs in his innings that saw three maximums and helped take New Zealand to 254 in their innings in the second of the three bilateral ODIs.

Among notable stand outs for the Blackcaps were Tom Blundell (68) and Henry Nicholls (49) as the Bangladesh duo of Mahedi Hasan and Khaled Ahmed nabbed three wickets each to put themselves in a promising position to take a lead in the series.

The first ODI between the two sides had been washed out to no result on Thursday in the Bangladesh capital.

The three matches mark the final set of ODIs for both the teams before they arrive in India for the 2023 ODI World Cup warm up matches. While New Zealand play England in the tournament opener on October 5 in Ahmedabad, Bangladesh will play Afghanistan in their first game on October 7 in Dharamsala.
