R Ashwin’s wife Prithi Narayanan has penned down a heartfelt note and after Indian spinner returned to play on Day 4 following the “longest 48 hours,” in which he went back home due to family emergency and then came back to play for India.

Ashwin had taken his 500th wicket in Test cricket on the second day of the Rajkot Test and attended the press conference after play. It was only late in night that the news of Ashwin having left the team became public via a statement from the BCCI.

“We chased 500 to Hyderabad, but it didn’t happen. To Vizag, it didn’t happen. So I just thought of a ton of sweets and gave them to everyone at home at 499. Five hundred came and went quietly,” Prithi wrote on Instagram.

“A lot happened between 500 and 501, Longest 48 hours of our lives. But this is about the 500. And the 499 before that.

“Family comes first, and there was no second thought in our minds when we came to know about his family issue,” he said.

“He wanted to be with his family, and it was the right thing to do. We missed him, but look, he came back, and this shows his character. We were happy to have him back.”
