So, another day has been called off by wet outfield at Port of Spain. There has been sunshine for the past three days but no cricket. India though have an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series but their number one spot is in danger.

Third umpire Gregory Brathwaite and a couple of other groundsmen with the tip of their fingers pressed hard at a dishevelled mound that had been flattened by the gargantuan mechanised roller. It seemed quite pudgy, like when you dip your hands into the pudding. Immediately came another groundsman with a blower hung on his back and began blowing it on the mowed down surface. Their ploy was working and it was time to repeat the roller-blower routine. But just as an over-eager groundsman had mounted on the roller, the skies opened up and he immediately dismounted it to help his fellow groundsmen pull the tarpaulin over the surface.

On Thursday, a few minutes before a thunderous spell of rain was to wash away one and half days of play, Darren Bravo stood static on his follow through, watching the ball roll across the turf and jump over the rope at long-on. This was his first boundary of the innings. A ball later, Ravichandran Ashwin tried to lure him with flight. The ball gently looped in the air, but before it could even land, it was met with a fierce swing of Bravo’s forearms, his willow launching the ball over a bewildered mid-on’s head.
