It promised to be a close game for a long period of time until that Syuash Sharma over where Miller all of a sudden opened the floodgates with a couple of sixes. It went only in one direction from there on. Vijay Shankar smacked the bowlers all over the park. This is his second 50 against the KKR this season. Nitish Rana will be looking back at the game and thinking about where has it all gone wrong for his side in this game. It is hard to pin-point one moment apart from that catch from Syuash. With the loss, it seems like curtains for the KKR for the playoff chances and the defending champions seems to be on their way once again to qualify for the top four.
Vijay Shankar has turned the heat on here. He smashed the inform bowler Chakarvarthy for 23 runs. That should be the game folks. It looked like we had a nailbiter for a while but this partnership has killed the hope. The fans seem to be dejected what has transformed in the last 15 minutes it might be difficult for KKR to qualify for playoffs from here on. After 17.4 over Gujarat Titans 173/3
Andre Russell bowled a bouncer which Miller top-edged and the ball went high up in the air. Syuash went for the catch and dropped it. The body language of KKR seems to have changes since that Syuash Sharma in the over. It is GT's game to lose from here on. Brutal hitting bu Shankar and Miller here. After 16.1 over Gujarat Titans 148/3
Suyash after bowling well goes for 18 runs in his final over. He tossed a few up to David Miller which he accepted and delivered them into the stands. With that big over momentum has completely swung back in the favour of GT once again. After 15 over Gujarat Titans 129/3
After a few quiet overs, Miller got the much-needed boundary. The batters all of a sudden seem to have trouble timing the ball. The Kolkata spinners are doing it again. They are piling the pressure on the batters with dot balls. Rana has been exceptional with captaincy tonight once again he made the right moves at the right time. After 14 over Gujarat Titans 111/3
The young-leggie followed up two wicket overs with an excellent tight-over here. This has been fabulous bowling from KKR they have pulled back things exceptionally well. KKR is ahead of this game at the moment. KKR is doing to GT what they themselves did to LSG earlier in the season which is choking with spin. After 13 over Gujarat Titans 103/3
The GT opener trying to get his landmark in style mistimes the ball completely of Sunil Narine and gets caught on the boundary by Russell. Huge wicket for KKR in the context of the game. This game has opened up nicely here in the last 15 minutes or so. David Miller has walked into the middle with plenty to do. After 12 over Gujarat Titans 98/3
Harshit Rana picks up the GT skipper. To the ball which came back a touch after pitching in Hardik had no answers. He did not even bother to review the decision and just walked back. Vijay Shankar has walked into the middle another right-hander in the GT line up. After 11 over Gujarat Titans 92/2
After building pressure for a few overs Narine has let the pressure away here by giving an 11-run over. Hardik seems to be in good touch today. With two right-handers in the middle, how long can Rana keep Narine giving with the other options available for here. It has been smooth sailing for GT so far. After 10.1 over Gujarat Titans 89/1
Hardik has blown hot and cold this season so far. This might be an important innings for him personally helping his side take over the line. He played some memorable innings for the Mumbai Indians in the past at the Eden Gardens and will be hoping to replicate atleaset one of them. After 9.2 over Gujarat Titans 80/1
Narine after having back-to-back bad games have started well here giving away just seven runs bowling to two right-handers. GT have struggled in middle overs this tournament so far. And changing the trend today will be extremely difficult given the quality of spinners of the KKR. After 8 over Gujarat Titans 70/1
It has been a good start for the leg-spinner once again. He bowled tight lines and lengths. Shubman Gill struggled to pick his variations in the over. If not for a misfield from Rinku Singh in the middle of the over where he kicked the ball to a boundary it was a fantastic over. After 7.1 over Gujarat Titans 64/1
Varun has bowled well in the powerplay here. He bowled two economical overs pulling back things in a bit favour of GT. Rana has now turned to Syuash Sharma he too has been in fabulous form this season so far. After 6 over Gujarat Titans 52/1
Shubman Gill holds the key for GT here. If he can play an anchoring innings here that will help his team to get closer to the target. On the other hand, If KKR can pick Gill and expose the middle order of GT to their top-class spinners they might find it difficult to score against them. After 5.2 over Gujarat Titans 51/1
Andre Russell picks up Wirddhiman Saha. The GT opener trying to hit one into the stands mistimes and gets caught by Harsith Rana. That is the breakthrough the KKR were looking for. Hardik Pandya walks into the middle he has a job in a hand to help his side get over the line. After 4.4 over Gujarat Titans 43/1
KKR's new ball bowlers have started badly yet again. It has been the tale of their season so far where the pacers give away runs and spinners come back and pull things back. However, it needs to change at some point in the season if they have to progress further in the tournament. After 3.1 over Gujarat Titans 36/0
Russell has been given the new ball from the other end. It is a good sign for the KKR supporters as he is looking fit to bowl again nicely. Wriddhiman Saha and Gill will be looking to lay a solid foundation in this mediocre run-chase as early wickets may push them on the back foot. After 2 over Gujarat Titans 13/0
Harshit Rana takes the new ball for KKR and starts well. He struck to his lines and lengths. Wriddhiman Saha who is a local boy knows the conditions exceptionally well and will be hoping to make the most of them. Shubman Gill who is a former KKR player has a point to prove as well as well. After 1 over Gujarat Titans 3/0
Feeling good. I think looking at the scoreboard Im not that happy but we have good bowlers. This looks like a 190-200 wicket, we are maybe short. We just need to bowl to our plans. Im backing each and every bowler and myself with the ball. (On playing at Eden) Means a lot, the love I get from the fans is crazy when Im in Kolkata. This franchise is like family to me.
Andre Russell hit a few hefty blows at the end, apart from that it was Gurbaz's 81 that has been the highlight of the innings. It has been a one-man show from him. The rest of the batting order came in, took their time to get themselves in by consuming deliveries, and then departed. The same has been the case with the ball for the Gujarat Titans. Josua Little has been standout with his bowling and the rest of the bowlers went a bit around the park. The wicket seems to be a bit sticky. However, under lights, the ball comes on nicely and whatever moisture seeped into the pitch due to the rain must have dried up by now. This is going to be a fascinating chase. We have to wait and see how GT goes about it. Don't go anywhere folks will be right back with the updates in the second innings.
It has been an exceptional bowling spell from Little. He bowled well in the middle overs. In the final over of his spell, he nailed his yorkers brilliantly. David Wiese on the other hand after starting a little slowly smashed Little into the stands when he missed the mark once in the over. This is going to be a huge final over. After 19.1 overs Kolkata Knight Riders 168/6
Rinku Singh trying to go after Noor Ahmed perishes. The left-arm leg-spinner bowled wide of the off-stump which Rinku went after however, could not middle it. Little on the boundary who had a fabulous day with the ball takes a good catch. David Wiese has walked into the middle he too can strike the ball a long way. After 18 overs Kolkata Knight Riders 156/6
Andre Russell has started well here smashing Rashid Khan for a couple of mamoth sixes. He is looking in good touch. If he can get a few here in with Rinku Singh we might be in for fireworks in the last few overs. Hardik Pandya needs to be a little careful about what bowlers he is going to bowl from here on as one wrong may cost the Titans in a massive way. After 17.2 overs Kolkata Knight Riders 156/5
The splendid knock from the Afghan batter has come to an end. Flicking a Noor Ahmed full toss he timed it straight to Rashid Khan it was a simple catch for Rashid. Andre Russell has walked into the middle KKR needs him to perform today as he might be the key for the hosts to post a decent total on the board. After 15.4 overs Kolkata Knight Riders 136/5
Gurbaz has gone after his Afghan teammates here. He has been brutal, especially against Rashid Khan. The leg-spinner had a smile on his face after the assault. Gurbaz seems to have an answer for everything Rashid has to offer. He has literally single-handedly kept the KKR in the game so far. After 15.2 overs Kolkata Knight Riders 135/5
Mohit after conceding a six off the first ball to Rinku Singh pulled back things nicely in the remaining over. He might be bowling 3-4 overs here in the death which is not at all an easy ask for any bowler. However, this has been the phase he has been fabulous in his resurgence this season and will hoping to continue the same today. After 14.1 overs Kolkata Knight Riders 119/4
The hero from the last game between these two sides is finding it hard to time the ball. The GT think tank seems to have come up with a specific plan for Rinku after what happened in the last game. Mohit Sharma is now brought into the attack. He has been excellent so far at this stage of this innings so far. After 13.1 overs Kolkata Knight Riders 111/4
The Afghan keeper batter despite the chaos at the other end is continuing to play a gem of an innings. Apart from Little he looked comfortable against all the bowlers. This surface still seems to promise to be an excellent one. If KKR can somehow manage to get around that 200-mark they will have more than a decent chance with their spinners to defend the total. After 12.2 overs Kolkata Knight Riders 104/4
Joshua Little picked up Iyer and skipper Nitish Rana in an over. This has been an excellent spell of bowling from Little so far in this middle overs. He looked pumped right from his first ball and has been bowling with intent. After starting very well the KKR is losing their way a bit here. Rinku Singh walks into the middle the onus is on him to help KKR get to a competitive total here. After 11 overs Kolkata Knight Riders 88/4
Noor Ahmed has been brought into the attack by Hardik Pandya. He had an excellent last couple of outings against the Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants. He once again started well here to Venky Iyer who had no clue which way the ball has turned. The Titans have pulled things back a bit in the last 10 minutes or so. After 10 overs Kolkata Knight Riders 84/2
A brilliant knock from the Afghan. He scored at a brisk rate which has eased out a bit of pressure on Venky Iyer who is taking his time to get himself in. Gurbaz's battle with Little has been a thrilling one to watch so far. The Irish seamer seems to be pumped to bowl the Afghan and plenty of chitchat going around between the duo. After 9 overs Kolkata Knight Riders 80/2
Rashid Khan has not started well here so far. He has been taken for a few runs on this surface. He seems to not have found the right length and pace for this one. This looks like a good wicket for batting. Given the firepower still to come for the the Knight Riders they might be looking at a score of 200 from here on. After 8.1 overs Kolkata Knight Riders 76/2
It has been a strange decision by the GT management not to give Little the new ball which has been his strength. Playing for Ireland he came into the lime light with his skills to swing the ball both ways. If they were looking to use him in the middle overs why not go back to the pace of Alzar Joseph who has been in red-hot form. After 7.1 overs Kolkata Knight Riders 72/2
Despite the wickets from the other end, Gurbaz continues on his way smashing the bowlers. He got the better off Hardik and Shami early on and in the final over of the Powerplay, he took his fellow countryman Rashid Khan apart. This is a more than decent start by the Knight Riders in the Powerplay. After 6.1 overs Kolkata Knight Riders 62/2
The experiment to send in Shardul Thakur has not worked as he is gone for a duck. Trying to hit the ball into the stands down the ground he lofted the ball which went high up in the air. Mohit Sharma running in the backward direction takes a brilliant catch. Venkatesh Iyer walks into the middle for KKR. After 5 overs Kolkata Knight Riders 47/2
Hardik Pandya despite going for runs in the first over has brought himself for the second over. However, it is Gurbaz this time who smashed him for a couple of sixes in the over. It has been a mixed start for both sides so far. KKR is attacking but the Titans are threatening with the ball from the other end with the likes of Mohammed Shami. After 4 overs Kolkata Knight Riders 36/1
Mohammed Shami traps Jagadeesan in front of the wickets providing the opening breakthrough for the Titans. A much-needed one as the right-hander was looking in ominous touch. He scored some sumptuous boundaries. And here is a surprise for everyone Shardul Thakur has walked into the middle. After 3.1 overs Kolkata Knight Riders 23/1
Hardik Pandya has taken the new ball from the other end. However, has been smashed for three boundaries in one over by Jagadeesan. After starting slowly against RCB in the last game this is a good start by the Jagadeesan. KKR openers look like they want to make a menace in this Powerplay. After 2.1 overs Kolkata Knight Riders 17/0
Mohammed Shami has started well. He stuck to his lines and lengths in the first over of the innings. He has been phenomenal with the new ball this season so far. Jagadeesan and Gurbaz have started a bit cautiously. However, the absence of Jason Roy means either of the openers has to take the attack on. After 1.1 overs Kolkata Knight Riders 3/0
The ground is packed and the sun is shining bright excellent conditions for cricket. The wicket looks excellent we have to wait and see if that little rain affects the pitch and outfield. Earlier Pandya won the toss and opted to bowl first. Gurbaz comes in for Jason Roy for KKR and GT unchanged.
The game is set to begin in about 15 minutes from now. The sun is shining bright. No overs have been lost so far. The weather is looking promising at this point in time we must have a cracker of a game if the weather stays the way it is now.

After three IPL matches this season, Eden Gardens has averaged a first-innings score of 222. Out of all the exhibition grounds for the competition, it is the highest. However, spin has provided some relief, taking 21 wickets at an economy rate of 8.7 (versus 10.9 for pace) and a strike rate of 15.6, both of which are season-best figures for the grounds this IPL.

We would have batted first, DLS could come into the equation, but we would still have batted first. There are always areas where we can improve, we have had some forced changes - Jason Roy has a back issue, he's replaced by Gurbaz. Harshit Rana replaces Umesh Yadav
We will bowl first. Just because of the weather, it was bright when we came and we thought we should bat, but it has changed now. I'm pretty happy with where we are, 7 games gone, 7 more to come, we need to play good cricket and qualify for the playoffs. We will learn from the losses as well, but we just need to play some consistent cricket. We are playing the same team
Gujarat Titans unchanged for the clash
Gurbaz Rahmand and Harshat Rana come in for Jason Roy and Umesh Yadav respectively.
The destination is very far for us in this season. We still have six matches and it is important that we win all six of these matches. I won’t say it is difficult but we have to pull up our socks and fight till the last match. (On difference in coaching domestic and IPL) At this level, a lot of players are experienced and have big reputations, so spending some time with them and including them in strategies and planning is important as a coach. However, in domestic cricket we get about 12 months with the players, and we get a greater chance to interact with them. Here however there are back-to-back games, and of course there’s traveling and other commitments. So I feel managing the team is the most important. (On whether Russell is underutilized) I feel as a coach and as team management, whatever plans we take are for the better of the team. Andre is the kind of guy that can turn a game at any moment, so we are waiting for that so that he can fulfill his role. Hopefully, he will come good but it is important to say that at this moment everybody will have suggestions on Russell but it is important we stick to the plans.
It was very hot during our practice session yeasterday and looks like the same today as well. I've been feeling good, just want to enjoy doing whatever the team wants me to do and win matches for the team. I think there'll be some assistance for the spinners, but it's very hot, we need to asses the conditions quickly and be at our very best. That was a one-off game for one of our bowlers (on the Rinku Singh heist when the two teams played each other in Ahmedabad), but we can't think about that too much, just move onto the next game
We're playing on pitch number 6. Almost identical square boundaries at 63 and 64m, the straight boundary is a bit longer at 74m and the pockets at 70m. The surface looks superb, there is a bit of rough and a bit of breeze blowing acrss, but it's a good batting surface once again
